“Apple of Discord”

There was a wedding among the gods and all

gods/goddesses were invited except Eris, goddess of
discord.

Upset at her exclusion, she goes to the wedding banquet

and takes an apple to place upon the banquet table. She
inscribes the message,
to the fairest on the apple.

Three goddesses claim the apple:

A. Hera—queen of the gods
(wife of Zeus)
B. Athena---goddess of wisdom
C. Aprhrodite—goddess of love

A feud developed and turned so bitter that no god

would attempt to help decide the recipient of the apple.

Zeus (king of all gods) passed the judgment on to Prince

Paris, son of King Priam (King of Troy) because he was
the most beautiful mortal.

Bribes came from all three goddesses.

A. Hera offers Paris power

 ( to be the mightiest king of all time).
B. Athena offers him wisdom.
C. Aphrodite said very little but
Whispered in his ear.

*He then gave the apple to Aprodite.

Aphrodite’s promise was that

he could have any woman he desired, and she
recommended
a Spartan queen named Helen.

Helen was considered the most beautiful mortal female.

Paris follows Aprodite’s

recommendation and selects Helen. However, she was
already married to King Priam
King of Sparta.
