GEnx-2B67B model turbofan engines.

(d) Subject

Joint Aircraft System Component (JASC) Code 7600, Engine Controls.

(e) Unsafe Condition

This AD was prompted by an in-service occurrence of loss of engine thrust control resulting in
uncommanded high thrust. The FAA is issuing this AD to prevent dispatch of the airplane when
certain conditions caused by degradation of the MN4 microprocessor in the electronic engine control
(EEC) are present. The unsafe condition, if not addressed, could result in loss of engine thrust control
and reduced control of the airplane.

(f) Compliance

Comply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done.

(g) Required Actions

(1) For all affected GEnx-1B model turbofan engines, within 120 days of the effective date of
this AD, revise the operator's existing FAA-approved minimum equipment list (MEL) by
incorporating into the MEL the dispatch restriction specified in Figure 1 to paragraph (g)(1) of this
AD, as a required operation or maintenance procedure.
Note 1 to paragraph (g)(1): Specific alternative MEL wording to accomplish the actions
specified in Figure 1 can be approved by the operator's principal operations or maintenance inspector.

13
2021-21-05 2

(2) For all affected GEnx-2B model turbofan engines, within 120 days of the effective date of
this AD, revise the operator's existing FAA-approved MEL by incorporating into the MEL the
dispatch restriction specified in Figure 2 to paragraph (g)(2) of this AD, as a required operation or
maintenance procedure.
Note 2 to paragraph (g)(2): Specific alternative MEL wording to accomplish the actions
specified in Figure 2 can be approved by the operator's principal operations or maintenance inspector.

14
2021-21-05 3

(3) For all affected engines, before the EEC reaches 11,000 cycles since new, replace the EEC
MN4 microprocessor using an approved overhaul procedure.
(i) If the number of accumulated cycles on the EEC MN4 microprocessor cannot be determined
through operator maintenance logs or FADEC International shop visit reports, before the EEC
exceeds 12 years since entry into service (EIS) for affected GEnx-1B model turbofan engines or 14
years since EIS for affected GEnx-2B model turbofan engines, replace the EEC MN4 microprocessor
using an approved overhaul procedure.
(ii) [Reserved]
(4) Thereafter, replace the EEC MN4 microprocessor before accumulating 11,000 cycles since
the last replacement.

(h) Definition

For the purposes of this AD, an “approved overhaul procedure” is one of the following:
(1) Replacement of the EEC MN4 microprocessor using FADEC International-approved
maintenance procedures; or
(2) Replacement of the EEC MN4 microprocessor using the Accomplishment Instructions,
paragraph 3., as applicable, of:
(i) GE GEnx-1B Service Bulletin (SB) 73-0097 R00, dated December 17, 2020; R01, dated
January 29, 2021; or R02, dated May 17, 2021; or
(ii) GE GEnx-2B SB 73-0090 R00, dated December 17, 2020; R01, dated January 28, 2021;

2021-22-18 Airbus SAS: Amendment 39-21791; Docket No. FAA-2021-0545; Project Identifier
MCAI-2021-00071-T.

(a) Effective Date

This airworthiness directive (AD) is effective December 29, 2021.

(b) Affected ADs

None.

(c) Applicability

This AD applies to all Airbus SAS Model A350-941 and -1041 airplanes, certificated in any
category.

(d) Subject

Air Transport Association (ATA) of America Code 52, Doors.

(e) Reason

This AD was prompted by a report of a broken forward guide arm found during a passenger door
emergency opening test. Investigation results indicated that the opening speed of the door was higher
than expected, likely caused by a reduced damping due to oil leakage of the passenger door damper
emergency opening actuator (DEOA). The FAA is issuing this AD to address failure of a passenger
door to perform its intended function during an emergency opening, which could result in reduced
evacuation capacity from the airplane and injury to occupants.

(f) Compliance

Comply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done.

(g) Requirements

Except as specified in paragraph (h) of this AD: Comply with all required actions and
compliance times specified in, and in accordance with, European Union Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA) EASA AD 2021-0085, dated March 19, 2021 (EASA AD 2021-0085).

(1) Where EASA AD 2021-0085 refers to January 29, 2021 (the effective date of EASA AD
2021-0018), this AD requires using the effective date of this AD.

20
2021-22-18 2

(2) Where EASA AD 2021-0085 refers to its effective date, this AD requires using the effective
date of this AD.
(3) This AD does not mandate compliance with the “Remarks” section of EASA AD 2021-0085.
(4) Where paragraphs (4) and (5) of EASA AD 2021-0085 refer to “the limits as defined in the
inspection SB [service bulletin],” for this AD use “the limits as defined in ASR [aircraft structural
repair] A350-A-51-73-11-01ZZZ-667Z-A.”
(5) Where paragraphs (1) and (2) of EASA AD 2021-0085 specify to “replace the forward and
aft guide arms on that door in accordance with the instructions of the inspection SB,” this AD
requires “removing the forward and aft guide arms on that door, in accordance with the instructions
of the inspection SB; doing a detailed inspection of the forward and aft guide arm support bracket on

(7) Model A340-541 airplanes.
(8) Model A340-642 airplanes.

(d) Subject

Air Transport Association (ATA) of America Code 34, Navigation.

(e) Reason

This AD was prompted by a report that during the frame of flight test clearance process, a
detailed analysis of air data reference (ADR) failure scenarios led to the identification that
compliance requirements for loads and handling qualities throughout the flight envelope could be
impaired in case of dispatch with one ADR inoperative (master minimum equipment list (MMEL)
item 34-10-01) during the maximum interval allowed by the current MMEL. The FAA is issuing this
AD to address the possibility of in-flight loss of a second ADR combined with erroneous low speed
data provided by the remaining functional ADR, which could result in loss of control of the airplane.

(f) Compliance

Comply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done.

33
2021-22-25 2

(g) Requirements

Except as specified in paragraph (h) of this AD: Comply with all required actions and
compliance times specified in, and in accordance with, European Union Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA) AD 2021-0103, dated April 13, 2021 (EASA AD 2021-0103).

(h) Exceptions to EASA AD 2021-0103

(1) Where EASA AD 2021-0103 refers to its effective date, this AD requires using the effective
date of this AD.
(2) Where EASA AD 2021-0103 specifies to implement certain information in “the MMEL
MER” into the “operational documentation,” this AD requires revising the operator's existing FAA-
approved minimum equipment list (MEL) to incorporate that information.
(3) Where EASA AD 2021-0103 specifies to “inform all flight crews, and, thereafter, operate the
aeroplane accordingly,” this AD does not require those actions as those actions are already required
by existing FAA operating regulations.
(4) The “Remarks” section of EASA AD 2021-0103 does not apply to this AD.

(i) Additional AD Provisions

The following provisions also apply to this AD:

(1) Alternative Methods of Compliance (AMOCs): The Manager, Large Aircraft Section,
International Validation Branch, FAA, has the authority to approve AMOCs for this AD, if requested
using the procedures found in 14 CFR 39.19. In accordance with 14 CFR 39.19, send your request to
your principal inspector or responsible Flight Standards Office, as appropriate. If sending information
directly to the Large Aircraft Section, International Validation Branch, send it to the attention of the
person identified in paragraph (j) of this AD. Information may be emailed to: 9-AVS-AIR-730-
AMOC@faa.gov. Before using any approved AMOC, notify your appropriate principal inspector, or
lacking a principal inspector, the manager of the responsible Flight Standards Office.
(2) Contacting the Manufacturer: For any requirement in this AD to obtain instructions from a
manufacturer, the instructions must be accomplished using a method approved by the Manager, Large
Aircraft Section, International Validation Branch, FAA; or EASA; or Airbus SAS's EASA Design
Organization Approval (DOA). If approved by the DOA, the approval must include the DOA-
authorized signature.
(3) Required for Compliance (RC): Except as required by paragraph (i)(2) of this AD, if any
service information contains procedures or tests that are identified as RC, those procedures and tests
must be done to comply with this AD; any procedures or tests that are not identified as RC are
recommended. Those procedures and tests that are not identified as RC may be deviated from using
accepted methods in accordance with the operator's maintenance or inspection program without
obtaining approval of an AMOC, provided the procedures and tests identified as RC can be done and
the airplane can be put back in an airworthy condition. Any substitutions or changes to procedures or
tests identified as RC require approval of an AMOC.

2021-23-07 Saab AB, Support and Services (Formerly Known as Saab AB, Saab Aeronautics):
Amendment 39-21805; Docket No. FAA-2021-0616; Project Identifier MCAI-2021-00256-T.

(a) Effective Date

This airworthiness directive (AD) is effective January 5, 2022.

(b) Affected ADs

None.

(c) Applicability

This AD applies to Saab AB, Support and Services (Formerly Known as Saab AB, Saab
Aeronautics) Model SAAB 340B airplanes, certificated in any category, as identified in European
Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD 2021-0058, dated March 1, 2021 (EASA AD 2021-
0058).

(d) Subject

Air Transport Association (ATA) of America Code 33, Lights.

(e) Reason

This AD was prompted by a report that the circuit breaker for the emergency cabin lighting
tripped without fault in the system. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the low rating of the 2LN

an insufficiently charged emergency battery, with consequent loss of cabin emergency lighting,
possibly resulting in injury to occupants during an evacuation.

(f) Compliance

Comply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done.

(g) Requirements

Except as specified in paragraph (h) of this AD: Comply with all required actions and
compliance times specified in, and in accordance with, EASA AD 2021-0058.

(h) Exceptions to EASA AD 2021-0058

(1) Where EASA AD 2021-0058 refers to its effective date, this AD requires using the effective
date of this AD.
(2) The “Remarks” section of EASA AD 2021-0058 does not apply to this AD.

(3) For this AD, the safety seal installation only may be deferred up to 750 flight hours or 6
months, whichever occurs first, after the effective date of this AD, if the safety seal is not available at
the time of the snap wire installation.

(i) No Reporting Requirement

Although the service information referenced in EASA AD 2021-0237-E specifies to submit

certain information to the manufacturer, this AD does not include that requirement.
