Warmer: Teacher’s notes:

Word Scramble: Scramble and write the letters to the word CHEATING on the board. Have students
unscramble it and discuss what it means.

Discussion:

a) Ask students if they have ever witnessed cheating. Discuss. Watch videos and discuss, “what
would you do?” (If you were the secretary, if you were the girlfriend/boyfriend)

b) Next discuss if they have ever been in a situation where they knew their best friend’s boyfriend
or girlfriend was cheating on them. If so , discuss: what did they do, if not, hypothetically, what
would they do?
c) Tell the class you are going to watch an episode of Friends which is about cheating and that they
are going to hear and learn about some expressions we use to talk about relationships. If they
don’t know the show, give them an introduction, and show them a picture of the characters so
they can know who is who.
d) Show the episode and have students complete the listening exercises. At the end, peer answer
check.
e) Write the dialogues in groups of 2-5. Present to the class.

Dialogue: Catching a cheater

You and a friend are at the movies and you see your best friend’s boyfriend/girlfriend cheating with
someone else!! You’re furious and you discuss what you should do with the friend who’s with you at the
movies. Now what happens? What do you decide to do and why? What is the outcome (consequence)
of this decision?
