GROUP 7

APPLICATIONS OF
GRAPHS
Graph – concerned with networks of vertices/nodes connected by edges.
Graph Theory – study of graphs and known as geometry of position.

FLIGHT NETWORKS

In flight networks, graph data structures

are used to compute shortest paths and
fuel usage in route planning. The vertices
are places of departure and destination.
The flight trajectories between airports
are the edges.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Connecting with friends via social

media or a video going viral. Each
user is a vertex and when users
connect, they create an edge.

CHEMISTRY

Graphs are used to model molecule

structures for computer processing.
Here atoms can be considered as
vertices and the bonds that connects
them as edges. This can be used to
study the structure of molecules and
to check similarity level between
molecules.

SCHOOL BUS

ROUTE

School administration developing bus

routes to pick up students and drop
to school. Each stop is a vertex and
the route is an edge. A Hamiltonian
path represents the efficiency of
including every vertex in the route.

COMPUTER SCIENCE

In computer networks, nodes are

connected to each other via links. This
final network of nodes forms a graph.
In computer network, graph is used to
form a network of nodes and enable
efficient packet routing in the network.
