Writing An Email - Address
• We can address an email to someone by typing their email address in the ‘To’ box.
• If you look carefully, you can find options called CC and BCC.
CC (carbon copy) — if you type someone’s email address in the CC box,
they also receive a copy of the email.
BCC (blind carbon copy) — if you type someone’s email address in the BCC box,
they receive a copy of the email BUT the main person you sent it to doesn’t know.

Writing An Email - Subject
• The Subject section tells the person getting the email what this email is all about.
• You should make the Subject short, but meaningful, such as ‘English Homework’.

Writing An Email - Message
• Once you’ve filled in the addresses of people and a subject, you can
write a message.
• Make sure you write the message with the person in mind.
If you are writing to a friend, you can write informally, using slang.

Writing An Email - Attachments
• You can also insert attachments to an email. The button looks like a paper clip.
Attachments are files (e.g. photos) you can add to your message.
• Make sure you only send files you know are safe. Never send on files from people
you don’t know as these may have a virus and could damage a friend’s computer.
• When your email is ready, and you’ve inserted any attachments you need, you can
press send!

Receiving Emails
• When you give out your email address, people can use it to send an email to you.
• When you receive a new email, you will often get a notification to tell you.
• Unread emails wait for you to open in your email client (program).

Receiving Emails - Replying
• When you get an email, there are two buttons - one is “Reply” and
one is “Reply To All”.
• The “Reply” option goes only to the person who sent you the
email. You send an email to just this person, and not anyone else in
the email group.

Receiving Emails - Forwarding
• There is also an option to ‘Forward’ an email. It usually looks like a straight
arrow.
• This lets you send an email you have received to someone else.
If you have been sent a nice email and you think your friend would
enjoy it, you can forward the email for them to see.
If an email has upset you, or makes you worried, you can forward
an email to a parent or teacher and they can take actions to help you.
