Capstone Update #4

What I have accomplished so far

- Created an availability chart/calendar for my clients

o As I had mentioned in my last capstone update, creating a clear and set schedule for my
availability is important as it saves time for both my clients and I, and prevents
miscommunications.
- Completed two sets on clients
o This set was probably one of my most difficult sets as it challenged me to attempt a
design I've never done before
- Aura nails!
o Aura nails (or blush nails) is a style of nail art which requires an airbrush machine.
Sometimes nail techs would use different equipment to achieve this design, but I have
struggled with those alternative methods.
o I finally mastered the design using an eyeshadow brush. I learned to be light handed and
gentle with the sponge to achieve a soft, smooth, and blended look.
- Asked for feedback from my mentor for mastering my acrylic application and shaping.
o Mastering my acrylic application and offering a new type of service can offer a broader
range of services I can cater towards my clients.

What I plan to accomplish by the end of the week

- Posting more on social media to increase my engagement with possible customers in the future.
- Pushing past my comfort zone and attempting difficult designs
o I tend to stay within my comfort zone when doing practice sets on clients or myself.
o Practicing challenging designs can improve my technique and skills to become a better
nail tech.
o This can also make me a more flexible nail tech.

My needs (materials, time, space, mentor etc.)

- More nail tips are the main part for

o Nail tips are the most crucial part for gel-x nail extensions. Without them, you’d be
putting gel on the natural nails. The nail tips are what makes the nails longer.

Challenges I encountered and how I have overcome them

- Busy schedule
o With the dance season coming to an end, and school getting busier, I struggled finding
time with my availability to work with clients and practice.
o To overcome this challenge, I updated my availability chart and created a specific time
for practicing
o When I am unable to access my nail equipment, I spend my time looking for inspiration
sets to try in the future to challenge my skills as a nail tech.
