‫اسم فاعل‬

The Active Participle

/ ‫اسم الفاعل‬ism al fa'il/, which translates to the name of the

doer, is the active participle that is our lesson for today. It
takes the verb and changes it to the same form or structure
or the word .‫فاعل‬
The Doer
The active participle is literally just that: the doer of the action that is going to be done in the

/ ‫اسم الفاعل‬ism al fa’il/, which translates to the name of the doer, is the active participle that is
our lesson for today.
It takes the verb and changes it to the same form or structure or the word .‫فاعل‬In other
words, it makes it look and sound like the word .‫فاعل‬
Let’s take a look at this example:
/ ‫كسر‬kasara/ Break
/ ‫كاسر‬kasir/ Breaker
/ ‫كتب‬kataba/ Write
/ ‫كاتب‬katib/ Writer

Notice that an alif ‫ أ‬is added to make the active participle resemble the word .‫فاعل‬

The Passive Particle

Ism al-Maf’ool are those words that describe the object of an action.
ie,
The person or thing upon whom or what the action was done, this is the Ism
Maf’ool.
An example:
from the verb ‫ مقتول‬-‫قتل‬

The word ‘Maqtool’ refers to the person who was killed.
