ADJECTIVES
WHAT IS AN ADJECTIVE?

• Adjectives are words that describe the qualities


or states of being of nouns: expensive, big,
beautiful, yellow, fun, fast. They can also
describe the quantity of nouns: many, few,
millions

• Adjectives are words that modify (describe)


nouns. Adjectives do not modify verbs or
adverbs or other adjectives.
TYPES OF ADJECTIVES
Adjectives come in three forms:
• Absolute
• Comparative
• Superlative.
ABSOLUTE ADJECIVES

• An absolute adjective is generally not capable of being intensified or


compared.

Examples:

• A big house.
• An old car.
• A beautiful picture.

ADVERBS
DEFINITION

• Adverbs are one of the four major word classes, along with
nouns, verbs and adjectives. We use adverbs to add more
information about a verb.

• Manner
• Place
• Degree
• Frequency
FREQUENCY

• We often use adverbs of • never


frequency to say 'how • normally
often' we do something.

HOMEWORK #2

• Choose 5 adjectives of the vocabulary, and write a sentence of each


one of them.
• Choose 3 adverbs of frequency presented in class, and write a
sentence of each one of them.
