Foreword
Welcome to the inaugural volume of the Youth for TPNW Research Papers series!

We’re excited to bring together four essays from youth delegates about different aspects of
nuclear disarmament. Whether you are a researcher yourself, an avid advocate, or just
someone who wants to learn more about nuclear disarmament, these papers are for you! The
broad range of topics included in just these four papers speaks to the massive field of
disarmament in which delegates at Youth for TPNW are actively working.

Engaging in discourse on nuclear disarmament is always important, and learning about

different facets of disarmament is a great way to truly understand the need for a
comprehensive nuclear ban treaty - the TPNW - to be implemented. Highlighting solid nuclear
disarmament research serves as a strong counterbalance to the often-overwhelming pro-
nuclear rhetoric that is unfortunately still perpetuated in many arenas.

The purpose of these Research Papers is to highlight independent research conducted by

different youth delegates from across the world. Whilst we at the Youth for TPNW Policy team
(consisting of myself and Magritte Gordaneer) have taken care to screen these papers, and we
believe that they generally align with our policies, we can not take responsibility for any errors
that may have been overlooked. The opinions expressed are those of our authors and do not
necessarily reflect the perspectives of Youth for TPNW. For any questions about the research
paper publication process or our policies, please do not hesitate to contact us at
policy@youthfortpnw.org.

If you’re interested, be sure to keep an eye out for calls for papers for future volumes on our
Youth for TPNW social media channels, and at youthfortpnw.net/research-publications/. We
look forward to your submissions!

Happy reading!
