FUEL QUANTITY INDICATION SYSTEM

Dielectric constant of Fuel is 2X of air.

When Fuel level rises:

Air is replaced by fuel:

FUEL QUANTITY INDICATION SYSTEM

Fuel contamination by the water inside the fuel tanks is the primary source
of the microbiological growth which is the root cause of the fuel tank
corrosion and one of the causes for the unreliable fuel quantity indication

PSD 60-2R calibration setting
for ATR 72 fuel Probes
PSD-60 setting : The interface cable is not connected to the aircraft, probe, or any other device /
Power On / Initialisation setting 0.00pF is displayed / Megger Mode 2 wires / Fonction test to
Measure Ext / Megger SELECT to TU
PSD-60 setting: Set frequency to 5000Hz and push button to enter / initialisation setting , 0.00pF
should be displayed.
Câble PSD40-556ZZZ should be connected the LO-Z and HI-Z interfaces for stray capacitance testing
(for example: 0.06pF) for < .1pF maximum , All stray capacitance values are calculated out of any
measurement
Note: Excess stray capacitance is typically indicative of a HI-z shield issue, circular connector
properties, or contamination.
Cable PSD40-556YYY connected the LO-Z and HI-Z interfaces for stray capacitance testing (for
example : 0.03pF) for < .1pF maximum, All stray capacitance values are calculated out of any
measurement
Note: Excess stray capacitance is typically indicative of a HI-z shield issue, circular connector
properties, or contamination.
For example, Testing of Probe harnesses P/N 796-947-3 gives 0.12pF – 0.06pF (PSD40 556 ZZZ) =
0.06pF, max tolerance allowed is 0.2/0.3 Pf as per Safran feedback, the value to be deduced from
total probe capacitance pF measurement.
For example, Probe capacitance P/N 768-100 without probe head grounding point:
52.36pF – 0.06pF (PSD40 556 ZZZ) – 0.06pF (Fuel probe cable) = 52.24 pF (51.4 +/- 0.5pF)
resulting out of CCM tolérance
Same test with Probe capacitance P/N 768-100 with probe head grounding point:
(51.65pF – 0.06pF (PSD40 556 ZZZ) – 0.06pF (Fuel probe cable) = 51.53 pF (51.4 +/- 0.5pF)
within CMM tolérance.
PSR60-R2 capacitance check requirements:

• # The PSD60-2R with no cables connected is displaying 0pF

• # Megger Mode 2 wires / Fonction test to Measure Ext / Megger
SELECT to TU.
• # Set frequency to 5000Hz and initialisation setting to 0.00pF.
• # To ensure correct PSD60-R2 presettings prior hardware testing
• # To check PSD40-556ZZZ/YYY stray capacitance values (0.1 pF Max)
• # To check Safran harness stray capacitance value (0.2/0.3pF Max)
• # Chassis grounding point should be connected to the probe or A/C
• # All stray capacitance values are calculated out of any measurement
