ESSAY

ABSTRACT
Feminism, a term that has sparked debates and conversations
across the globe, transforming traditional gender norms. This
essay discuss the true idea of feminism, exploring its historical
roots, the evolution of its core principles, and the
contemporary challenges and achievements. Furthermore, it
investigates the evolving definitions of feminism, emphasizing
its expansion beyond gender equality to incorporate broader
social justice issues. By examining statistics and setbacks, we
seek to debunk the multifaceted nature of feminism and its
integral role in fostering a world where every individual,
irrespective of gender, can flourish.

PAGE 27
BACKGROUND
The seeds of feminism were sown in the fertile grounds of social
inequality, as women historically found themselves confined to
predefined roles, restricted access to education, and limited career
opportunities. The suffragette movements of the late 19th and
early 20th centuries marked the initial thrust towards gender
equality, demanding women's right to vote. However, the true
essence of feminism extends beyond the ballot box

PAGE 28
INTRODUCTION
Many ideologists perceive feminism as a movement aimed at promoting women's superiority over
men or advocating for the eradication of traditional gender roles. However, the true idea of feminism
is not about supremacy or eliminating masculinity, but it is about equality. Feminism, in its purest
form, is advocating women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.
It is an idea where gender does not dictate one's opportunities, choices, or worth. The true idea of
feminism extends its reach to address not only the specific challenges faced by women but also the
broader goal of dismantling patriarchal systems that restrict both men and women from realizing
their full potential. One must note that contrary to popular belief feminism has nothing to do with
belittling men, in fact, feminism does not support sexism against either gender. Feminism works
towards equality, not female superiority. Feminists respect individual, and believe there shouldn't be
a double standard in judging a person. The first wave of feminism, rooted in the fight for women's
suffrage, laid the groundwork for subsequent movements. The second wave, emerging in the 1960s
and 1970s, focused on issues like reproductive rights and workplace discrimination. The third wave,
from the 1990s onwards, expanded its scope to include intersectionality, recognizing that women's
experiences are shaped by factors such as race, class, and sexual orientation.

PAGE 29
The true essence of feminism is somewhere between these waves, reflecting a dynamic movement
that adapts to the evolving challenges faced by women and marginalized communities. It is not
merely a fight for women's rights but a broader struggle against systemic injustices that hinder
human flourishing.
To comprehend the relevance of feminism today, one must turn to statistics highlighting persistent
gender disparities. Despite progress in various fields, a gender pay gap persists globally, with
women earning, on average, less than their male counterparts for the same work. According to the
World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2021, gender parity remains a distant goal, with
estimates suggesting it will take 135.6 years to close the economic gender gap. Moreover, women
continue to be underrepresented in leadership roles. According to a report , as of 2021, women held
only 29% of senior management roles globally. These statistics proves and justify the necessity of
feminist advocacy to challenge and change systemic barriers that limit women's progress in the
workplace. While feminism has achieved significant milestones, setbacks persist. The negative
response against feminist movements has roots in misconceptions about their goals. Some view
feminism as an attack on men rather than a call for equality. This misunderstanding is causing a
hindrance in progress by creating unnecessary chaos. The digital age has brought both opportunities
and challenges. While social media has amplified feminist voices and connected activists globally, it
has also become a platform for misogynistic attacks.

PAGE 30
Online harassment of women, led by sexist ideologies, poses a
significant obstacle to the advancement of feminist ideals.
In conclusion, the true idea of feminism debunks stereotypes and
misconceptions. It is a dynamic force striving for equality, recognizing
the interconnectedness of social, political, and economic realms. By
acknowledging the setbacks, feminism has evolved to become a more
inclusive movement where men have also participated and supported
women. The statistics revealing gender disparities justify relevance of
feminism and ask each and every woman to come forward and fight for
their rights. The journey towards true gender equality requires
collective effort, dispelling myths, addressing setbacks, and fostering a
global commitment to dismantling patriarchy. Only then can the true
essence of feminism illuminate the path towards a more equitable and
just future for all.

PAGE 31
CONCLUSION
After the completion of this project, the team has gained an immense
amount of knowledge on the topic of feminism. Through our work, we have
come to realize the importance of gender equality in all aspects of life. We
have learned that feminism is not just about advocating for women's rights,
but it is also about breaking down societal barriers that restrict equal
opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their gender. We hope that
our findings will inspire others to join the cause and work towards a more
equitable and inclusive society

STUDENTS’ REFLECTION LIST
ANSHIKA UNIYAL
Feminism was a term that I had listened a lot everywhere. Whether
it is social media platforms, news channels etc. People always are
on their tip and toes to protest in favor or against this term, but
half of them do not really have a sound knowledge of it. My
knowledge on feminism has expanded a lot after working on this
project. Still, there are people out there who just don’t care on this
topic and are ignorant of this fact. Through this project, I have
analyzed people’s opinions on this and tried to make them aware
about importance of feminism.

STUDENTS’ REFLECTION LIST
BHUMIKA RAWAT
Feminism remains to be a hot topic of discussion in today's times, not just for adults,
but for teenagers as well. Social media is flooded with feminism posts be it in it's
favour or opposition and this made me more curious to know what the term
“FEMINISM” actually stands for. While researching for this project I got an opportunity
to explore a lot of new topics. Now I can say that feminism works towards equality, not
female superiority. Contrary to popular belief feminism has nothing to do with
belittling men. The enemy of feminism isn't men, it's patriarchy. We also conducted a
survey and got to know about different ideologies and opinions that people have about
feminism. It was also very heartwarming to see even men coming out in support of
feminism. Also I had a great time working with this wonderful team and we
successfully completed this project. Lastly, I am happy and grateful that this project
came my way.

STUDENTS’ REFLECTION LIST
GRACY SINGH
I had a little knowledge of feminism before this project. Despite the fact that I was
knowledgeable in this area, it appears that my expertise was insufficient. I learned a great deal
of new information about the subject after doing thorough research. Equality is feminism's goal,
while eliminating patriarchy is its target. Another thing we should always remember is the
significance of each gender and the importance of treating them equally. However, let's face
the grim fact of the modern world: after analyzing the survey, I discovered that many individuals
have a negative perception of feminism, viewing it as an affirmation of women's superiority and
being bias towards women, but it's all about recognizing a group that is perceived as weaker
but is equal in number. My motivation to prove to people that EQUALITY is the ‘true essence of
feminism’ has increased as a result of this project.

STUDENTS’ REFLECTION LIST
MUGDHA KUMAR
Exploring feminism in our project was eye-opening. Reading diverse
perspectives challenged my biases, emphasises the intricate details within
the movement. Reading various articles about feminism showcased historical
struggles and fueled my commitment to dismantle barriers. Collaborative
discussions with peers enriched my understanding and sharpened my
analytical skills. This project has instilled a deep sense of responsibility. As I
carry these lessons forward, I am motivated to contribute actively to a more
equitable world.

STUDENTS’ REFLECTION LIST
SAUMYA RAJ
When discussing feminism in today’s society, various feeling can arise from different
individuals. Everyone may support feminism but it may mean something different to each
person. That is because there are several subdivisions of feminism. As I started to reflect on
what feminism meant to myself and explored various feminist websites, I found things I
disagreed with and others I was in agreement with their views. This has been a valuable
lesson to further investigate my feelings on feminism and to explore how these feelings may
affect me when interacting with individuals of opposing feminist views than mine. I feel that
the best way to project an unbiased attitude when dealing with such a patient is to handle
the situation as I would with someone from a different cultural background.

SHREYANSEE LAKRA
If I'm being honest, feminism was a term that I wasn't familiar with. Initially, I
thought it had something to do with the women's movement as the name
suggests. But as I went further into the topic, I discovered its true significance.
We all conducted research and gathered diverse perspectives on feminism. This
project has really helped me gain a better understanding. Nevertheless, there
are still others out there who may not fully grasp what feminism truly means.
However, just like I expanded my knowledge through this experience, anyone
has the opportunity to do the same.
