** Note: Connect per all applicable Jurisdiction Codes and standards. This unit should be connected by a qualified
electrician or qualified electronics technician.
*** Caution: The A8291-6 must be installed in a NON HAZARDOUS area. If field wiring to the burst indicator is
entering a hazardous area, all wiring and connected devices MUST comply with Stahl’s Type 9170 Operating
Instructions as supplied.
When working in hazardous areas, the safety of personnel and plant depends on complying with all relevant safety
regulations. Assembly and maintenance staff working on installations therefore have a particular responsibility. The
precondition for this is an accurate knowledge of the applicable regulations and provisions.
1. Mount the A8291-6 in a non hazardous location. Connect to a 120 Volts AC 60 Hz power source per wiring
diagram A8291-111 (attached). Use the AC power input terminal strip connections L1, N, and Ground.
Proper grounding is important. Connect a dedicated ground wire to the A8291-6 ground terminal block.
2. Connect a CSA approved burst indicator to wiring terminal strips 1, 2, and 3. (Brown = 1, Black = 2, Bare = 3)
per A8291-111. Comply with all field wiring requirements regarding lead capacitance & inductance for your
correct Zone & Class per Stahl ISPAC Type 9170 Installation Manual supplied with the barrier.
3. The front panel of the indicator is fitted with a Red Burst Indicator light. The light will illuminate when the
burst indicator is open if power is applied.
4. Connect to the single pole double throw output relay connections as required (C – common, NO – normally
open, and NC – normally closed). Maximum load ratings are 2 Amps at 250 Volts DC or 250 Volts AC 4 Amps
resistive. Maximum switching power 50 watts/1000 VA.
5. To test the BI monitor operation, power the A8291-6 without a burst indicator connected. The Burst Disc
indicator light should come ON.
Option:
This A8291-6 unit has the option for line short circuit monitoring protection of the input channel. This can be
implemented by enabling the LF switch and installing a 2.7K ohm resistor in series with the BI Indicator and a 22K
ohm resistor in parallel across the BI Indicator at the process end. Refer to the Stahl ISPAC Type 9170 Installation
Manual supplied with the A8291-6 unit.
