A new set of progression tests (Stages 3 to 6) will be released with the launch of the new redeveloped
Primary curricula. The new curricula will be available from September 2020, for first teaching from
September 2021, and this will provide teachers with ample time to become familiar with the new curricula
and the assessments. As part of the redeveloped curricula and to better support teachers, Cambridge
International will be producing a new set of progression tests annually. The next set of progression tests will
be made available in 2022 and then each year subsequently.
The current format and structure of the Checkpoint tests (Stage 6) will continue to examine the current
Primary curricula in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 examination series. The redeveloped Checkpoint tests (Stage
6) will assess only one-year content from the new Primary curricula starting from the 2023 examination
series. The transition period for the Checkpoint tests will enable learners who are part-way through the
current curriculum in 2021 to still be assessed on three-year content in the 2022 examination series.
