My inquiry question is:

How and why should people detail their own car?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I chose this question because I believe people can save a lot of money by learning to detail their own
vehicles.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

I work as a car detailer at a car dealership for the past one year. I have received in-depth training on how to
properly detail a vehicle efficiently and effectively. I also detail cars as a hobby for my friends and family. I
have a passion for automotive maintenance and its appeal and therefore I watch a lot of videos to enhance
my knowledge in this area.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

I have a passion for cars, and I aspire to open my own garage in the future. The job I'm currently doing is
giving me a head start in building my knowledge of cars and how to work on them mechanically

There are many subject areas that are connected to my project. The main area is attention to detail and
having a knowledge of the materials, their cleaning specifications and techniques. Automotive knowledge is
another key area as I should know the mechanics of a vehicle.

I am planning on using iMovie presentation to present my capstone project. I am planning on creating little
videos that are interesting to watch and that are knowledgeable.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

In this capstone project I aim to learn new techniques to enhance car detailing services and to provide to
the needs and expectations of car owners. Car detailing is an important area of automotive maintenance.
Making sure not only the aesthetic appeal but also the durability of the vehicle.

My Objective is to research the new trends and practices of the car detailing industry, understand what
areas need improvement and learn new techniques to cater to my clients

Research - I have spoken to my supervisors to understand the preferences of customers and the emerging
trends. I have also got the approval to speak to current customers to get firsthand knowledge of their
feedback.

I plan to start my own YouTube channel to educate people on different criteria on car detailing. Some of
the examples would be; the advantages of detailing your own vehicle, Exterior detailing, interior detailing,
engine bay cleaning, wheel and tire detailing etc. I will learn few editing skills to help me create high quality

 videos which will be creating and engaging.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to access/learn all the resources necessary to
complete this project? Detail your plans.

Resources – I will need a workspace, cleaning supplies and video equipment to create mini video clips to
start my YouTube channel.

Technology – Set up a YouTube channel, learn how to increase the views and promote it on other social
media channels like TikTok & Instagram.

Skills – Improve my knowledge and skills in car detailing techniques including washing, waxing, polishing,
interior cleaning, and paint correction. Learn the basics of videography and editing. Improve my
communication skills.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to

help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access
the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

My mentors would be my current supervisors at the car dealership I work in. They are helping me by
giving me tips and tricks of the trade. Accsess to few clients to get a better understanding of the needs of
the customers and guiding me through this project.

I plan on engaging with my family and friends and neighbors to research the topics of videos they would
like to watch.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

Time management – I feel that i may have some time constraints as I currently work part time
Equipment– I plan on using my phone to create the videos as I have a very limited budget for this project.
Topics – There are only limited topics I can create videos on
Video creation – I have a very limited knowledge on creating videos
