Section C: Structured Questions/Case Study

Verizon University: Recognizing IS Components

Students in the faculty of business information systems of Verizon University use their
desktop and laptop computers for a variety of assignments. For example, a student may use
Microsoft Word stored on a desktop computer and proceed to type a case study analysis.
When analysis is tight, edited, and properly formatted to an instructor's specifications, the
student may save it on a memory stick, e-mail a copy to the instructor via the Internet, and
print out a copy on the systems printer. If the student tries to save the case study analysis
using a file name he or she has already used for saving another document, the program will
display a warning message and wait until it receives an additional command.
Make an outline to identify information system components in the preceding example.

a) Identify the people, hardware, software, and data resources and the information of this
information system.

People – Students, instructors, people

Hardware – Desktop, Laptop, memory stick, assignment hardcopy and systems printer

Software – Microsoft Word, e-mail, internet

Data – case study

Procedure – students analyse the case study to answer the assignment requirements, prepare
the assignment using MS Word, and email a copy to the instructor as well as print a
hardcopy.
