DSL – „Digital Subscriber Line“

At analogue telephone lines, conventional modems work usually with up

to 56 kilobit per second (kBit/s), ISDN-modems with up to 64 kBit/s.
This is not the real limit for analogue technique. Usually the analogue
signals are transferred to 64-kBit-ISDN signals in the first telephone line
distributor node. These node distributors fix the limit. If there are better
distributor nodes, you may work with higher data rates on existing copper
cables.
DSL-technique requires 2 modems, one at the distributor node and one
at the customer line end.
Conventional analogue phones work only with frequencies up to 4 kHz.
Copper cables can carry frequencies up to 1.1 MHz. This high frequency range
can be splitted up in different channels, e.g. channels for voice transmission
9/11/2007 - filename.ppt – UTD/DSM

and channels for data transmission.

© ABB Power Technologies-37-

So transmission speed up to 52 MBits/s can be possible – depending on the

used DSL-type. Usually the transfer rates are lower to avoid interference
disturbance, if there are several pairs in one cable.

GPS Clock 560RTC01

• GPS is abbreviation for Global Positioning System: 21 satellites
are circling around the globe in 12 hours.

• If the clock is at a new place or got a new battery, the clock

should receive the signal of at least 4 satellite at the same time.
After 12 minutes reception of 1 satelite is sufficient for
synchronisation.

• BNC front plug for coax cabel (50 Ohm, RG58, max. 200 m
length)

• outdoor antenna with wide view to sky required, overvoltage

protection adapter recommended ( Phoenix COAXTRAB)

• the clock is usually synchronized ca. 10 seconds after power-

ON

• The red LED “FR” extinguishes if clock is synchronized by

satellite
9/11/2007 - filename.ppt – UTD/DSM

• yellow LED “MN” flashes with each minute pulse

© ABB Power Technologies-42-

• red LED “ST” signals antenna disconnected or internal error

• condensator buffered internal clock runs on for ca 150 h when

power supply OFF. Optional Lithium battery soldable on board.

• Live insertion feature

• RJ45 front plug for checking time by a serially connected PC,

optionally software update possible after pressing the key BSL

• BNC front plug for coax cabel (RG174 or RG58)

• The standard indoor antenna should be mounted with same

distance to noise sources (CPUs of electronic equipment)

• Adjustment of antenna in direction Frankfurt/Main, please watch

green LED “CD” (carrier detect)

• good reception ca. 2000 km around Frankfurt

• the clock is synchronized ca. 3 minutes after power-ON: Then

the red LED “FR” extinguishes

• yellow LED “MN” flashes with each minute pulse

• red LED “ST” signals internal error

• condensator buffered internal clock runs on for ca 150 h when

power supply OFF. Optional Lithium battery soldable on board.
