With distribution automation you can

lines, motors, generators, and trans-
formers from power supply distur-
bances and events such as overcurrent,

 Preventive maintenance

To get the most from your distribution
network you need to ensure that
everything works at its best and that
problems are kept to a minimum.
Preventive maintenance meets these
needs, enabling network operators
to predict and prevent problems and
disturbances, and to improve the
efficiency of network control and
maintenance operations.
Preventive maintenance is made
possible by remote condition moni-
toring of primary equipment, such as
breakers and disconnectors, data
collection and analysis. ABB distribu-
tion automation solutions include
units designed for real time remote
and local control, condition
monitoring, and supervision of
substations and remote feeders.
These units feature versatile commu-
nications capabilities and can alert
the control centre when preventive
maintenance is required, as well as
when faults and disturbances occur.
Additionally, their data gathering and
analysis functions help operators to
establish when maintenance should
be scheduled. ABB’s units also feature
self-supervision of their own software
and electronics. All in all these features

REJ 521, 523, 525 and 527
These are multipurpose protection
relays for overcurrent, earth-fault and
voltage protection.
REU 523
This voltage relay is intended for over
and undervoltage protection in distri-
bution networks but can also be used
for protection of generators, motors
and transformers.
REX 521
This feeder protection relay is
designed for protection, control,
measuring and supervision in distri-
bution networks and for protection of
large or medium-size three-phase a.c.
motors in circuit breaker controlled
motor drives.
REF 541, 543 and 545
These feeder terminals are designed
for the protection, control, measure-
ment and supervision of distribution
networks.
REF 542plus
This switchbay protection and control
unit combines measurement, monito-
ring, protection, control and self diag-
nostics in one package.
RET 541, 543 and 545
These transformer terminals are designed

and supervision of two-winding power
