Information for Parents/Guardians

This written report is regarded as a formal statement of student progress during the period under
review. It is intended to reinforce the information given to parents and the child through parent/
teacher discussions, teacher/child contact, portfolios and other forms of feedback.
Teachers do what they reasonably can to adjust the demands of learning to the capabilities and
progress of the child so that each child has the opportunity to succeed. Such an approach promotes
positive learning attitudes and is consistent with the Biblical teaching about personal talents and
responsibilities.
This report is designed to convey information to parents about:
• The student's achievement in all curricula
• Individual aspects of personal and social development
• The effort applied by the student within the classroom environment in relation to the particular
subject under assessment

ENGLISH

LEARNING AREA CONTENT


In Reading, the students further developed a variety of comprehension strategies, and worked on
developing greater fluency and expression. In Writing, the focus was on; narratives, expositions,
procedures, recounts and information texts. The students planned, created, and edited their
texts, developing their understanding of sentence structures. The students had weekly spelling
lists and activities, as well as working on grammar concepts and handwriting skills. They had
opportunities to work collaboratively in groups and to share news and information in front of the
class.

Students learned about sportsmanship and following basic rules in physical activities. The
students had, as learning focus, the fundamental movement skills required for the events for Fun
and Fitness Day, as well as striking, throwing, and catching skills in relation to cricket.

HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

The students learned about Australia's neighbours in Southeast Asia and the Pacific regions. They
saw how our own local communities are influenced by our neighbours, as we are a multicultural
society. The students learned about change and continuity in our community in relation to the
natural and built environments, as well as the role of different cultural groups in the development
and character of the local community.

family, friends and pets using simple descriptive modeled language. He reproduces pronunciation

Indonesian.

MATHEMATICS

LEARNING AREA CONTENT


In the Number and Algebra strand, students learned about place value up to thousands, practised
applying the four operations to authentic problems, including money, and worked with fractions.
They learned the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. For Measurement and Geometry students explored
measuring length, area and mass using appropriate units and telling the time to the nearest
minute as well as calculating duration of time. Students collected and interpreted data and
constructed graphs and predicted the outcomes of chance experiments to satisfy the Statistics
and Probability Strand of the Mathematics curriculum.

The students were expected to learn a Psalm or Hymn, and/or a Bible text each week. In Bible
Studies we covered the stories from the Exodus to the entrance into and conquest of Canaan. In
Church Studies, students learned about Martin Luther and his contribution to the Reformation,
and the history of the FRCA.

SCIENCE

This Semester, students explored concepts in relation to Chemical and Physical Sciences. Within
these units they predicted the effects of heat on different materials, investigated how solids and
liquids respond to changes in temperature, identified types of heat sources (kinetic, chemical and
electrical) and explored how heat can be transferred through conduction. Students displayed their
learning in completing individual and group activities, conducting experiments as well as creating
reports and reflections.

In Design and Technology, the students learned about the history of kites and how they worked.
They designed and constructed their own kites, giving thought to materials and recyclable
resources that could be used and reflected on the process.

THE ARTS - VISUAL ARTS

LEARNING AREA CONTENT


In Visual Arts this semester students made an artwork with trees and etched shadows onto their
painted background. They were also introduced to the famous artist Rembrandt van Rijn and
viewed some of his paintings including some biblical scenes. Students made textured paper and
then created a layered collage. They also explored illustrations from the Dutch author/illustrator
Dick Bruna and learnt how to draw and paint simple drawings with shapes. After learning about
tints and shades, the students used painting techniques (colour matching, creating texture), to
create a bird collage.
