Materials and tools Materials and tools
Yarn (white and black colors) - I crocheted with two strands (only a mane with one
strand) of 100% acrylic yarn "Diva" by Alize and used less than 180m (50g) of all colors
yarns in total.
Weight: Super Fine (1) = Fingering (350m/100g=383yds/3.52Oz).
Crochet hook – I used Clover 2.75 mm and 2.00 mm (for a mane).
Stuffing.
Plastic eyes – I used safety plastic eyes 12 mm in diameter.
Sewing needle.
The toy is 4 1/2 inches (11-12 cm) tall using the materials mentioned above.

Crochet two swatches using your yarns and matching crochet hooks first to make sure that you
have chosen the right yarn. Instructions for both swatches:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring
Rnd 2: 6 inc = 12 sts
Rnd 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 18 sts
Rnd 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 24 sts
Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 30 sts
Rnd 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 36 sts
Rnd 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) * 6 = 42 sts
Compare your swatches. It should be as in the picture.
If not, take bigger or smaller hooks than you used before (depending on the result) and work
other swatches. If it does not help – choose different yarn and make other swatches.

Please note that you should cut off some black yarn to crochet the nostrils before you start
working the head. I needed approximately 24 inches (60 cm). You can use the second yarn edge
from the center of the skein if you don’t want to cut off yarn.

Use a needle and black yarn to sculpt eye sockets (I used contrasting color yarn for
illustration):
Step 1. Insert the needle into the opening at the back of the head (pic 15).
Step 2. Exit the needle under the right eye on its outer side (pic 16).
Step 3. Insert the needle under the right eye on its inner side (now we have a stitch under the eye).
Step 4. Exit the needle under the left eye on its inner side (pic 17).
Step 5. Insert the needle under the left eye on its outer side (now we have a stitch under the eye)
(pic 18).
Step 6. Repeat step 2; hold the free tail of the yarn and pull the yarn a little to shape the eye socket.

Step 7. Repeat steps 3-4-5. Head
Step 8. Exit the needle to the opening at the back of the head (pic 19).
Step 9. Pull both yarn tails and fasten them off to secure the eye sockets (pic 20). Hide the tails
inside the head.

Using the yarn tail with the needle, weave through the front loops of the opening and pull the
yarn tight to close the opening.

1. Sew the body to the head
Place the body between Rnds 11-12 and 16-17 of the head and sew it with the yarn tail. Place the
body so that the color change line would be on its side (the arm will hide this line) (Picture 31).

5. Make the tail Assembling
You can make the tail using any method you like (by chaining as many sts as you need, or by
tying macramé knots, or by using any other method).
I did it using macramé technique by tying right half knots (see Diagram 2) to form a spiral.
Cut several pieces of yarn of black and white colors (I cut 8 inches (20 cm) long each) and
attach them at the place where you ran the yarn tail out at the center back between Rnds 6 and 7 of
the body.
Make sure the edge strands are different colors (pic 46). Tie 8-10 right half knots. You will end
up with a spiral. Tie a firm knot at the end of the spiral. Trim the tail and brush up the ends.

If you want hands to be movable, you can use button joints
(see Diagram 3).
