One root of the quadratic equation 𝐟 𝐱 = 𝐚𝐱𝟐 + 𝐛𝐱 + 𝐜 = 𝟎 is

greater than ‘𝐞’ and the other roots is less than ‘𝐝’ (𝐝 < 𝐞).

𝐟 𝐝 >𝟎 𝐟 𝐞 >𝟎

𝐟 𝐝 <𝟎 𝐟 𝐞 <𝟎

Necessary and sufficient conditions : 𝐢 𝐚. 𝐟 𝐝 < 𝟎, 𝐢𝐢 𝐚. 𝐟(𝐞) < 𝟎

Example
For what value of ‘m’ the one root of the equation 𝐱𝟐 – 𝐦 – 𝟑 𝐱 +
𝐦 = 𝟎 greater than 2 and another root is smaller than 1.

Solution
