BIO - Cycle Test 1 (04.03.2024)
SECTION – A: 7x1=7
2. Find the odd one out: Orobanche, Striga, Orchid fruits, lupine.
(a) 5-8 day of menstrual cycle (b) 11-17 day of menstrual cycle (c) 18-23 day of
menstrual cycle (d) 24-28 day of menstrual cycle.
(a) seminiferous tubules (b) vas deferens (c) epididymis (d) prostate gland
(a) fructose and calcium but has no enzymes (b) glucose and certain enzymes but has
no calcium (c) fructose and certain enzymes but poor in calcium (d) fructose, calcium
and certain enzymes.
(a) If both Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of
Assertion.
(b) If both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not the correct explanation of
Assertion.
(c) If Assertion is true but Reason is false.
(d) If both Assertion and Reason are false.
SECTION – B 5 X 2 = 10
9. Differentiate between: (a) hypocotyl and epicotyl; (b) coleoptile and coleorhiza; (c)
integument and testa; (d) perisperm and pericarp.
10.i) Draw the diagram of L.S of pistil showing entry of pollen tube growth.
ii) Cleistogamous flowers of Commelina are invariably autogamous. Mention its one
advantage and one disadvantage to the plant.
11. Identify A, B, C & D with reference to
gametogenesis in humans.
human embryo.
SECTION – C 5 X 3 = 15
13. i) Name the organic material exine of the pollen grain is made up of. How is this
material advantageous to pollen grain?
ii) Reason out: Exine does not form a continuous layer around the pollen grain.
14. List out the steps involved in artificial hybridization in a sequential order.
15. With the help of an example of each explain the following, Apomixis,
parthenocarpy & polyembryony.
16. Where does fertilisation occur in humans? Explain the events that occur during
this process. How is it that only one sperm enters the ovum?
ii) How many male gametes would have used to produce these 200 viable seeds?
iii) How many megaspore mother cells were required in this process?
iv) How many pollen grains must have minimally pollinated the carpel?
19. Read the following passage and answer questions: The process of formation of a
mature female gamete is called oogenesis. Oogenesis is initiated during the
embryonic development stage when a couple of million gamete mother cells
(oogonia) are formed within each fetal ovary; no more oogonia are formed and
added after birth. These cells start division and enter into prophase-I of the meiotic
division and get temporarily arrested at that stage, called primary oocytes. Each
primary oocyte then gets surrounded by a layer of granulosa cells and is called the
primary follicle. A large number of these follicles degenerate during the phase from
birth to puberty. Therefore, at puberty only 60,000-80,000 primary follicles are left in
each ovary. The primary follicles get surrounded by more layers of granulosa cells
and a new theca and are called secondary follicles.
i. Primary follicles are surrounded by many layers of granulosa cells & theca
ii. Secondary follicles are surrounded by theca iii. Antrum is formed at
Tertiary follicle stage. The correct combinations…..
III. Assertion (A): Primary oocyte completes its first meiotic division in tertiary
follicle Reason
a) A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A b) A and R are true and R is
not the correct explanation of A c) A is true , R is false d) A is false , R is true
IV. Read the following & arrange them in a sequence ….
a) Ova b) Oogonia c) Primary oocyte d) Secondary oocyte e) Graffian follicle
20. List out the cyclic events that happen in a primate female reproductive system,
emphasizing on their hormonal regulations.
ii) Describe the structure of cell that guides the pollen tube to enter the embryo sac.
