z Perfect Safety Precautions
z Compressors are programmed to adjust energy automatically according to work
condition to save energy.
z Realize delayed start of compressors to avoid the frequent start of them.

4.2 Main Elements Instruction

z AC Contactor

Principle of Contactor:
Electromagnetic force generated by coils when the current is switched on makes the soft
iron connecting the poles of a magnet attract and drives the movable contact to make the
movable and motionless contacts close in order to put through the main circuit. The movable
and motionless contacts will be apart and the main circuit will be open when the soft iron
releases because of disappearance of electromagnetic suction or low electromagnetic suction.
All the contactors used are world-famous with the characteristics of longevity, small size, no
vibration and noise and a wide range of application. Choose AC-3 load type contactors for this
unit.

z Thermo- Relay

The thermo-relay is mainly used to protect the compressors overloading and for open phase
protection. Its heat element is made of two pressed different metal with different coefficients of
expansion. The relay shall release as a result of distortion of the two metal sheets heated up
beyond a certain temperature when the current gets above the allowable load current. The relay
we used is well-known and much more advanced with the characteristics of adjusting fixed value,
manual and automatic restoration and indicating compensation and buckle.

Page 8 of 33
VIKING AIRTECH IM FOR MAIN AC DECK UNITS

z Pressure/Pressure Difference Relay

Pressure/pressure difference relay is generally comprised of corrugated pipe, balance

spring, leverage, difference mediation mechanism and electrical contact. The corrugated pipe
shall undergo deformation when the pressure changes and lever pushes the electrical contact to
open or close the circuit. The contact part adopts the sensitive switch to make the movable
contact and the fixed contact close or open quickly and avoid being influenced by the arc to the
most degree and its reliability is much higher.

3.1 Inspection Before Startup

Must inspect and verify the following items are in good condition and ensure they are in
accordance with the requirements in the specification:
z For belt connection between blower and motor, mount the blower and motor with their
shafts directed in parallel to each other so that the line connecting the pulleys for both is
at right angles with respect to the shafts ;
z For direct coupling, Install so that the axes and surface of the blower and the motor are
correctly aligned in a straight line;
z Check the degree of stretching of the belt, When the central portion of the upper run of
the belt is tapped by the hand, it does not spring back excessively, but has a slight
looseness, and the belt moves smoothly when turned by hand;
z Clean foreign matters present in the blower;
z Check if the direction of rotation is normal;
z After starting the blower, once turn off the OFF switch immediately before entering the
full speed rotation to see if there are no troubles in the interior rotation and then start the
normal operation.

in accordance with the requirements.

3.3 Normal Running Indication

z The plant runs smoothly and have no deviant noise and shock;
z The temperature of blower bearing is in principle +40 ℃, the max. value not exceed
+70℃;
z The current of blower motor accords with the design condition.

3.4 Steps of Stop

Stop the AHU blower (Must do this after confirming the cooling air fans and compressors all
stop).

4 MAINTENANCE

Page 15 of 33
VIKING AIRTECH IM FOR MAIN AC DECK UNITS

Since most of the factors affecting the life of the blower are corrosion due to aging of he
blower itself and durability of the bearings, pay particular attention to the following items.

z Cleaning
Clean the interior of the blower periodically (more than 2 times per year are preferable), and
also carry out re-painting depending on necessity.

z Lubrication of Bearings

For the bearings of blowers, roll bearings are generally employed with grease lubrication
adopted as standard. Although the grease need not be replenished normally for about half a
year to one year once applied, various conditions such as operating hours, revolutions, kinds
of bearings, etc, must fully be taken into account. If the work condition is too bad, then filling
grease not less than 3 times one year.
The proper filling amount is up to about 1/3~1/2 of the space within the bearing box.
Suggest lubrication brand – Shell;
Note: It is not required to replenish grease for the oilless bearings.

4.1 V-belt Drive Installation

Remove the protective coating from the ends of the fan shaft and assure that the shaft ends
are free of nicks and burrs:
Check fan and motor shafts for parallel and angular alignment.
The center distance must be controlled as 0.7(d1+d2)<a<2(d1+d2); the belt speed of
fan should be more than 10m/s, but less than 15m/s.(10m/s<v<15m/s)
Slide sheaves on to the shafts - do not drive the sheaves on to the shafts as this may
result in bearing damage.
Align fan and motor sheaves with a straight-edge or string, and tighten.
Place belts over the sheaves. Do not pry or force the belts as this could result in damage
to the cords within the belts.
Adjust the belt tension until the belts appear snug. Run the unit for a few minutes and allow
the belts to set properly.
Switch off the fan; adjust the belt tension by moving the motor base. When in operation, the tight
side of the belts should be in a straight line from sheave to sheave and there should be a slight
bow on the slack side.

Page 16 of 33
VIKING AIRTECH IM FOR MAIN AC DECK UNITS

A proper level of belt tension is required in order to obtain a satisfactory belt life. If the belt
tension level is too high, then excessive loads will be imposed on the belts and the bearings,
and this will reduce the lives of both of these components. If the belt tension level is too low,
then the belt will slip. Belt slippage generates a large amount of heat, and this heat will drastically
reduce the life of a belt.
Belt-tensioning gauges can be used to determine whether the belts are tensioned
properly. A chart is normally supplied with the gauge which indicates the ranges of forces
required to deflect the belts by a given amount to obtain the proper belt tension level. The
required forces are based upon the center distance of the sheaves and the belt cross-
section. The belts are properly tensioned when the forces required to deflect the belt are
within the specified range as below.

If a belt-tensioning gauge is not available, then the belt should be tightened just enough
so that the belt does not squeal when the ventilator is started. A very short period of noise
during the starting of a ventilator is allowable, but a squeal lasting several seconds or longer
is not acceptable.
After tensioning the belts and before starting the ventilator, check to make sure that the
sheaves are properly aligned. Realign the sheaves if necessary. Note that new belts may
stretch a little during initial use, so the belt tension level should be checked after a few days
of operation.
Note: The belt should be released if the ventilator does not run in a long time. And until
