Kenmare sponsors PhD scholarship for a student from Mozambique

Kenmare Resources plc, one of the leading global producers of titanium minerals and zircon, which
operates the Moma Titanium Minerals Mine (the "Mine" or "Moma") in northern Mozambique, is delighted
to announce that it is sponsoring a PhD scholarship for a Mozambican postgraduate student.

The successful student will study at Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland, which is ranked as
one of the top 200 universities in the world, in the university’s School of History, Anthropology, Politics
and Philosophy (“HAPP”). The scholarship will cover PhD fees and a stipend (a regular payment to assist
with living expenses), as well as travel and relocation costs.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the postgraduate student must currently be resident in Mozambique,
have Mozambican nationality and be interested in pursuing a PhD in History, Anthropology, Politics or
Philosophy at Queen’s University Belfast.

Applications will open on 20 May 2024 and close on 21 June 2024. More information is available at

Kenmare is committed to providing opportunities for people in Mozambique and education development
is one of the four focuses of the Kenmare Moma Development Association (“KMAD”). KMAD is a not-for-
profit organisation established by Kenmare in 2004 to implement development initiatives in the Moma
Mine’s host communities. Since its inception, KMAD has supported over 300 secondary school and
university scholarships and the sponsorship of the PhD at Queen’s University Belfast is an extension of
Kenmare’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for people in Mozambique.

Michael Carvill, Managing Director of Kenmare, commented:

“Kenmare is delighted to support this great initiative championed by Dr Eric Morier-Genoud; it builds on
our on-going education programme within Mozambique where we have built more than 90 classrooms, a
technical school and are sponsoring undergraduate bursaries to the local universities. As an alumnus of
Queen’s, I am particularly proud to have played a small part in setting up this scheme for Mozambican
scholars.”

Dr Eric Morier-Genoud, Reader in African History and Associate Director of Internationalisation in

HAPP and the lead academic for the studentship, said:

“It is an immense pleasure to see Kenmare and Queen’s University come together to support the training
of academics in Africa. This scholarship will contribute importantly to strengthening the pool of highly-
trained university professors in the humanities and social sciences at universities in Mozambique”.
