Media Awareness: Mad Pride Parade

Concept Note

As part of our ongoing commitment to informing and educating our community about
critical societal issues, we are excited to propose a collaborative initiative on World Mental
Health Day, titled "Mental Health: A Universal Right - A Dialogue with The Banyan,"
aims to amplify the critical message that access to mental health services is a fundamental
human right and should be accessible to all.
Mental health is a universal right because it is intrinsically tied to the fundamental principles of
human dignity, equality, and well-being. Just as physical health is considered a basic human
right, so too is mental health. This recognition is enshrined in international human rights
declarations, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which emphasizes the right
to health, encompassing both physical and mental well-being.
As part of this initiative, we are intending to host a 'Mad Parade.' It's not just a parade; it's a
celebration of diversity, resilience, and unity in the mental health community. This colorful and
spirited event brings people from all walks of life together to raise their voices and raise
awareness about mental health. The 'Mad Parade' is a testament to the strength and courage of
individuals who've faced mental health challenges and come out stronger. It's a moment of
inspiration and solidarity that reminds us that we're all on this journey together, supporting one
another, and working towards a world where mental health is truly recognized as a universal
right. It's also a powerful message that people should not be discriminated against because they
are different, quirky, or queer. Inclusivity is at the heart of the 'Mad Parade,' where everyone is
celebrated for who they are."
This colorful and spirited event brings together people from all walks of life, including
individuals with lived experience of mental health issues. The 'Mad Parade' has been a
resounding success in the past, with enthusiastic participation from more than 200 individuals
with lived experience of mental illness. It's a moment of inspiration and solidarity that reminds
us that we are all on this journey together, supporting one another. This parade is a reminder to
recreate the synergy we had initiated in 2019 for forwarding the movement.
