Noise pollution

 Choose quieter milking machines/system

 Ensure that milking equipment is well maintained so it doesn’t make extra noise
 Find a good location –ECIAF’S location is good because not many people reside in the nearby vicinity so noise pollution is not a big issue

Air pollution

 Manage waste like manure properly – remove it and recycle it

 Dispose of animal carcasses properly so they don’t generate unpleasant odors and gases
 Manage fossil fuel use by servicing and keeping milking machines in good working condition. This reduces power used, and carbon
emission

Water pollution

 Waste water can be recycled using a simple water purification system with a filter and chlorination unit
 Waste water can be purified and used to farm fish like tilapia
 Proper drainage can be implemented along with the simple water purification system

Manure

 Manure can be dried to make fertilizer for crops due to its high NPK content
 It can also be composted
 Slurry water may be collected and used to make liquid fertilizer
 Fun fact: Manure as fertilizer also increases the soil’s ability to hold water by up to 20 percent, which means farmers need less
groundwater to grow crops.

Waste bedding and hay

 Waste bedding can be used to compost to make fertilizer for crops.
 Waste bedding can be used to make biogas
 This can also be cleaned and treated so it can be reused or given/sold to other farms
 It can be sent to factories and manufacturers to produce products like composite wood products from this waste

Animal carcasses

 They should be disposed of properly in a suitable or landfill away from residences (this option is not optimal).
 These carcasses can also be decomposed to be used as fertilizer which is more complicated and require appropriate vessels and
equipment. It can also smell.

Waste feed

 To make sure that the cows and cattle do not leave excess feed behind, make sure feed or forage is fresh.
 Clean feeding troughs and feeding areas
 Train farm personnel on how to portion out feed rations so to prevent wastage.

 Have proper storage of feed, avoiding areas prone to leaking and wetness

 Ensure there's enough space at feeding areas to minimize competition.
