Caution!
This manual describes how to install and operate the G210 ColorChex 60. Read this manual
completely before attempting to install or use the instrument. Important information is included in
G210 ColorChex 60 wiring diagram, which must be referred to for electrical installation.
The G210 ColorChex 60 is a professional laboratory instrument used for assessment of fabric
color. You, as the Operator, must be authorized and should have received appropriate training. It is
the user’s responsibility to ensure the safe operation of this instrument. SDL Atlas Ltd cannot
accept any responsibility whatsoever for accident resulting from failure to observe these precautions
or safety instructions.

1. This apparatus utilizes high voltage. Any unauthorized modifications or damage to the
apparatus may result in electrical shock. Handle all components with care. Inspect
regularly for damage to components and cabling. Take the unit to a qualified service
person for inspection and necessary repairs.

2. Ultraviolet source inside, UV radiation protection for eyes and skin is recommended
during operation. During use the lamp tray will become hot, do not touch.

3. The mains plug of the power supply cable is the only way to completely switch off the
unit. In order to isolate the apparatus from the mains supply, the plug of the supply
cable should be removed from the mains outlet.

4. Connect the instrument to the power supply outlet using the supplied power supply
cable. Do not modify the supplied cable. The mains outlet shall be located in a user
accessible position for easy unplugging.

5. Replacement of lamps shall be carried out by qualified service personnel. The apparatus
shall be isolated from the mains supply prior to replacement.

6. Please follow the procedure laid out in this manual. Improper installation or modification
of the apparatus shall void all warranties.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Remove parts from box as shown. Canopy

Cabinet consists of 5 component parts:


Back plate
1 x Base plate

1 x Back plate

2 x Side plate
Left side plate Right side plate
1 x Canopy Base plate

2. Position and screw two side plates to

edges of back plate using the truss

head screws provided. Ensure that the

rear edge of the side plates line up with

the back plate.

3. Slide base plate into position and

screw two side plates and back plate to

side edges of base plate. Ensure that

the all edges of base plates mate with

two side plates and back plate.

4. Locate canopy on the top edge of

back plate and side plates (tongue and

groove).

IMPORTANT
As a safety precaution this cabinet should be properly earthed.

Light
Lamp Information
Source
Correlated color temperature is 6500K. Within the
tolerances prescribed in BS 950: Part 1, Illuminant for
Artificial color matching appraisal. Specified for most
D65
Daylight D65 applications where there is a need to maintain color
consistency and quality. Conforming to the CIE
specifications, for accurate color matching.

Narrow-band Narrow Band Triphosphor Fluorescent Lamps.


TL84 Correlated color temperature of 4000K. Used as a
Fluorescent
European Point of Sales Illuminant.

Illuminant ‘A’ Correlated color temperature 2856K. Required by BS


A 950: Part 1 as a test for metamerism (CIE Illuminant
(Inc A)
‘A’). Used to check for color flaring.
Horizon Home lighting with correlated color temperature is
H Daylight 2300K.
(HOR)

Cool White Cool White Broad Band Fluorescent Lamps.


CWF Correlated color temperature of 4000K. Used as an
Fluorescent
American Point of Sales Illuminant.

CABINET LOCATION
For best results, glare, extraneous light and anything which can affect the visual response must
be avoided. Any windows near the cabinet should be fitted with grey blinds. No direct light should
be in the field of view and the general lighting in the vicinity should also be “Artificial Daylight” to
a level of 200-300 lux. The wall area behind the cabinet should be finished in light grey emulsion.
These measures will ensure comfortable and accurate color appraisal.

Note:In order to get the accuracy visual assessment, it is proposed all lamps should be

changed every 2,000 hours (except A&H only 1,000 hours) (RE.: Menu & Setting

Options). If interior surfaces of the cabinet become scratched, marked or stained

they should be repainted using SDL Atlas supplied paint to ensure correct color

and reflectance values.

Basic Operation:

Connect ColorChex to power supply using the power supply cable provided. Press any key on

the panel to continue. The LCD screen displays the company logo and then proceeds to the

operation screen (figure 1). In the operation screen the top line of the LCD display indicates the

various light sources available. To illuminate any light source press buttons numbered 1-5 as

required. To switch off the light source, press the same numbered button. With no lamps

illuminated, press and hold ESC for 1 second to power off the ColorChex.

Basic operation using remote control :

The Remote Control can be used for basic operation of the ColorChex up to range of 10 meters. Connect
ColorChex to power supply using the power supply cable provided. Switch on remote control (figure 2) by sliding
key lock to the left position. Press power button to switch ColorChex on. To switch on any light source press

buttons numbered 1-5 as required and hold for two seconds. To switch off light source press the same button.
Press power button to switch off ColorChex. Slide key lock to the right position when not in use.

Note: The Remote Control requires a type 23A 12V battery.

2) Change Lamp Type: This allows the user to Figure6


use different lamps than were supplied originally
with the unit and to re-configure the operation
screen accordingly. It is also used to reset the

1,2,3,4 or 5 on the panel to select the light source
to be changed (displayed in left hand side of LCD).

Use the up & down arrow keys and enter to select


the light source that unit is being changed to (right
hand side of LCD). When a lamp is replaced
change lamp to the same source e.g. If
replacement D65 bulb is fitted select D65 change
to D65. This will reset the stored data.
NOTE: The whole LCD will be flashing and
display which lamp service life time arrived.
Press any key can skip this screen. The LCD
will be flashing again whenever you turn on the
power until the lamp is replaced and reset the
stored data (the working life of shipment
setting is 2000 hours). Figure7

Select AUTO, enables the power save mode. The
LCD backlight will turn off after 10 seconds if no
key is pressed.

Enables a pattern of different lamps to be
programmed and stored. The program can then be SEQUENCE MENU

5) Warm up Control: If Enable, on start up, the


LCD will show the hint of warm up time according Figure13

Maintenance
Though your apparatus requires little care, you can still maintain its excellent conditions and

performance following the procedures below.

• Keep the apparatus away from excessive moisture, extreme heat or cold and the risk of fire or

electric shock.

• Keep liquids away from the apparatus.

• Do not block the ventilation opening.

• To avoid damage, do not place external devices or other objects on the apparatus.

• Do not excessively scratch the inner surface. Clean the inner surface using a soft, dry cloth or a

vacuum cleaner. To remove stains, use a soft cloth and warm soapy water.

• Fuse Replacement:
a) PCB: F1(F2.5A/250V); F2(T500mA/250V)

b) Power supply socket: T2.5A/250V
