HUNGARY AND ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES

Hungary
Hungary is located in middle Europe, in the so called Carpathian Basin (Kárpát-medence).
The population of the country is about 10 million people. Although most people live in
smaller towns and villages, Hungary has a couple of big cities, the biggest of them all being
Budapest, the capital city of the country.

There are about 2 million people living there and it is said to be one of the most beautiful
cities of the continent. It is well-liked by tourists due to its beautiful landscape and sights. I
would recommend tourists or even hungarians to go and see some of Budapest’s most
amazing sights, such as: The Parliament Building (Parlament épülete)
Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere)
Margaret Island (Margit-sziget)
Saint Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István Bazilika)
Fisherman’s Bastion (Halászbástya)
Zoo of Nyíregyháza (well known in Europe, could be mentioned)

Budapest is split into two separate parts by the River Danube, so the two sides are connected
by many bridges, this gives an amazing landscape to the city.
If you want to go out at night, Budapest offers interesting Ruinpubs (romkocsmák), which are
a unique concept/idea of the country.

Hungary has a lot of great thermal-spas, not only in Budapest, but in Nyíregyháza or around
Balaton as well. They are the best places for a long day of relaxation. (You shouldn’t hesitate
to leave Budapest as a tourist, Hungary is a small country, every other city can be reached
with a couple of hours of driving!)

Tourists not only like the beauty of Budapest, many of them are interested in the hungarian
culture as well. The hungarian national dishes are pretty well known around the world. They
are usually very spicy, and heavy dishes (our most used spice is paprika). Some of them are
the following: stuffed cabbage (töltött káposzta), fish soup (halászlé), goulash soup (gulyás
leves). I saw a video on Youtube, that lángos, a hungarian food usually served at beaches, is
popular in many cities on the west coast of America, because it’s easy and quick to make, so
it’s the perfect street food and people absolutely love it!

(Not too long ago many celebrities in America wore clothes/dresses during events like the
Oscar Gala with the hungarian Kalocsa embroidery patterns. (kalocsai hímzési minta))

For people who really want to experience the hungarian culture, I recommend visiting the
Hortobágy National Park (Hortobágy Nemzeti Park), which shows tourists how hungarians
lived many years ago keeping animals, such as the hungarian grey cattle/cow (magyar szürke
marha), and harvesting crops, riding horses, singing national songs and folk dancing
(néptánc).
English speaking countries

English is the official language in many different countries, but the biggest of them are the
United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom (UK) and Australia. Today I would
like to talk more about the U.K., because that is where the English language originates from.

The United Kingdom consists of several countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland) and it is located on the Island of Great Britain. The capital city of the U.K. is London,
which has a population of 9 million people. The head of the state (az állam vezetője) is Queen
Elizabeth II, meanwhile the head of government (a kormány vezetője) is the prime minister
(miniszterelnök).

The weather in England is never too cold nor hot. This is because of the sea, it keeps the
island warm in winter and cools the air during summer. One disadvantage is that it is very
windy in England and it rains pretty much all the time.

London is also a very well liked place by tourists, just like Budapest, the city has many
beautiful sights and tourist attractions. I have never been to London, but if I had the chance, I
would definitely like to see the Big Ben, the Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, or the
Tower Bridge.
