I. BRIEF HISTORY:
Long time ago, a group of Spanish Navigator passes the Romblon Channel seeking water
for their drinks. While in the middle of the sea, they saw two high mountains with a river,
where they can drink. They landed in the seashore and they saw an old man catching
shrimps for their viand. The Spanish Navigators ask the old man, “What is the name of
this place?” the old man replied that he doesn’t know. Then he invited the Spaniard to his
house. While in the old man’s house, the visitor saw the old man’s wife pounding rice.
One of the Spaniards asks the old woman “what do you called that wood where you
pound your rice? The old woman replied “LUSONG” and that’s how Barangay Lusong
got its name.
Barangay Lusong is located in the central part of San Agustin. It is bounded on the north
part by Barangay Binonga-an on the south by Brgy. Hinugusan, on the east by Romblon
Pass and the Municipality of San Andres on the west. It has a land total area of 862. 3591
hectares. Its topography is generally hilly and mountainous. Majority of the folks are
farmers and a few are fishermen. Barangay Lusong is divided into four sitios: Centro,
Ilaya, San Roque and Pook.
Sitio Centro, Barangay Lusong has a lot of activities done every month. On the average, 6
meetings per month and 8 seminars per year are held in the area. Physical fitness
activities are also held once a month, Youth Day is held every quarter, and fiestas are also
held. The problem is that these activities tend to be canceled during the rain. There’s also
the problem of not having enough space for certain events and activities or not having a
proper area for holding activities such as seminars and meetings.
The table below shown how the project may solve the problem cited above.
The title is Renovation for a Multi-Purpose Hall in Sitio Centro, Barangay Lusong. The
building to be renovated will be the stage. It will have a second floor which will serve as
the very Multi-Purpose Hall. This project is estimated to be finished for about 75
calendar days. This will generate jobs for the people in the community who are not yet
employed considering equal opportunity for both people in the community who are not
yet employed considering equal opportunity for both men and women. The project will
directly benefit 125 HHs and 100 indirect households, mostly farmers and school
children.
