ACTIVITY GUIDE AND EVALUATION RUBRIC – TASK 3 - DIGITAL AND

INTERACTIVE MATERIALS IN LANGUAGE LEARNING.

NOMBRE:
LUIS MARCIAL NAVARRO SALAS

SAN JOSE DE CUCUTA

2023
A. Based on the reading by ekström & zetterberg, how can digital
teaching be used to provide students with opportunities for authentic
communication?

R: Digital teaching offers new opportunities for teachers. Digital teaching

should be understood as a set that encompasses the use of digital material and
digital tools. Digital teaching allows the teacher to expand the teaching topics and
more easily capture the student's attention. However, they do not guarantee
success in the task of educating; It is the duty of teachers to guide students in
digital teaching. In conclusion, digital teaching opens new ways for teachers, this
can allow language learning to be more efficient and authentic.

B. According to howard & major, what are some of the advantages and
disadvantages of teacher-produced materials? List them and explain.

R:

ADVANTAGES

CONTEXTUALISATION: Generic educational resources ignore the different

contexts that teachers face when they teach. By designing their own resources,
teachers will be able to adapt the material to their students and optimize the tools
available in teaching.

INDIVIDUAL NEED: Creating your own materials is a more correct response

for those students who have individual needs, facilitating their adaptation to
teaching.

PERSONALISATION: Personalized materials can add more spontaneity and

dynamism to classes, motivating students, as well as allowing them to choose the
topic of the study material.

TIMELINESS: Unlike generic study materials, with your own materials you
can include current topics which, being more relevant, will undoubtedly be of
interest to the student.

DISADVANTAGES
ORGANISATION: A disadvantage is the lack of organization, so it is the duty
of the teacher who creates his own materials to establish from the beginning what
the learning goals will be, so that these are visible to the students.

QUALITY: The quality of teachers' own materials could be questionable if

certain parameters are not followed. A simple solution could be that the own
materials are a tool to make better use of generic study materials, that is, that they
complement each other.

TIME: Creating study materials that meet quality parameters takes time,
making time a disadvantage. Own materials are a great tool since they offer more
advantages than disadvantages, but teachers find it difficult to always use them.

C. Based on the reading by pardo & tellez, how can teachers use elt
materials to meet the needs of their learners?

R: Teachers should use study materials as a bridge that brings students

closer to the proposed learning goals. Each teacher, through the results obtained
with each material, depending on its category or topic, must identify the needs of
his students so that teaching is efficient. The authors say that to seek this
effectiveness, teachers must take into account how relevant, motivating and
meaningful the study material is for each student.

D. According to strydom, what are the key features of virtual learning

environments (vles)? Explain each.

R:

-A virtual learning environment is a designed information space.

-A virtual learning environment is a social space: educational interactions

occur in the environment, turning spaces into places.

-The virtual space is explicitly represented: the representation of this

information/social space can vary from text to 3D immersive worlds.
-Students are not only active, but also actors: they co-construct the virtual
space.

-Virtual learning environments are not restricted to distance education: they

also enrich classroom activities.

-Virtual learning environments integrate heterogeneous technologies and

multiple pedagogical approaches.

-Most virtual environments overlap with physical environments.

E. What are some of the factors that tomlinson believes should be

considered when developing materials? Explain them.

R:

- The teachers receive constructive feedback during and after the

course or project: This allows you to evaluate the quality and efficiency of the
study material. With this you can find errors and improve.

-The course or project links practice to theory and theory to practice in

ways which help the participants to select, adapt and develop materials in
principled and effective ways: The development of materials must help each
student easily adapt to the teacher's different learning methods.

-The course or project provides guidance to participants but also gives

them some responsibility to make their own decisions: Students must take
responsibility for the activities proposed in the material, therefore, it is important
that they get involved and that this task does not correspond to the teacher, who
should only be a guiding entity for them.
