TERMINOLOGY
RELEVÉ
A movement where
the dancer rises up
on their toes/pointe
and lifts heels off the
ground

PLIÉ
A movement where
the dancer bends
their knees with legs
turned out

ARABESQUE
A pose where a
dancer stands on one
leg and other raised
behind at a right
angle
TENDU
Movement where one foot
slides across the floor
with the toes touching the
floor with straight legs and
toes pointed

JETÉ
A jump made from
one foot to the other
while extending both
legs outward in the
air

PASSÉ
Movement where one
foot passes in back
or in front of the knee
of the standing leg
COUPÉ
Movement where one
foot cuts either in
front of or behind the
other; passé but at
the ankle

BATTEMENT
A movement in which
the dancer lifts one
leg to the front, side
or back and returns it
to the supporting leg

CHASSÉ
A three-step gliding
movement where the
same foot always
leads
ROND DE JAMBE
Crcular movement of the leg with the
working leg either in the air or with a
foot touching the floor
