POSITION: General Services Assistant


CLOSING DATE: April 15, 2024

The United States Peace Corps is a US Government Agency which has been operating in El Salvador since
1962. Since its launch, more than 2,300 Peace Corps Volunteers have supported community and youth
development projects across El Salvador. After a multi-year absence from the country, Peace Corps
reopened its office in San Salvador in 2023 at the invitation of the Government of El Salvador. Peace Corps
Volunteers will work alongside community members on locally prioritized projects that build
relationships, promote knowledge exchange, and make a lasting and measurable impact.

The General Services Assistant (GSA) will be based at the Peace Corps office in San Salvador. The position
will require occasional travel to various locations in El Salvador. This position works with the General
Services team to ensure that day-to-day operations are efficient, effective, and adhere to relevant policies
and guidelines. The GSA provides critical assistance to building operations, inventory, and vehicle fleet
management, and serves as a back-up driver and courier. This is a full-time position, requiring a minimum
working schedule of 40 hours per week. The position will be supervised by the General Services Manager
(GSM).

Responsibilities

• Ensures that vehicles are properly maintained and operated in accordance with Peace Corps and
USG guidelines, and manufacturer specifications.
• Performs weekly checks of Peace Corps vehicles in accordance with vehicle check list; ensures
vehicles have sufficient fuel for planned activities.
• Assists the GSM in collecting, reviewing, and monitoring all vehicle logs, scheduling the
maintenance and repair of vehicles, and entering vehicle information into the Vehicle Management
Information System (VMIS) in a timely manner.
• Assists the GSM with vehicle replacement and disposals in accordance with the Peace Corps Vehicle
Fleet Management Guide.
• Performs occasional property repairs and maintenance and assists in identifying service providers
such as electricians, plumbers, masons, etc.
• Responsible for performing physical property inventory ensuring that each item listed on the
inventory records is verified with all the property tags.
• Assists staff with procurement requests and purchases.
• Ensures supplies areas are well-organized and well maintained.
• Assists staff with shipping and receiving of supplies and property.
• Assists staff with the movement of furniture or supplies, and other related tasks.
• Serves as back-up driver as needed. Provides safe and courteous transport for staff, volunteers and
other personnel conducting official Peace Corps business.
• Transports supplies, equipment, materials, mail, and other communication to and from the office.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma
• Prior Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience in property management and maintenance, and
related experience such as construction, electrical, plumbing, or a related field. At least 1 year of
experience in fleet management and/or coordination or vehicle maintenance.
• Language Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in English is required. Advanced proficiency in English will
be considered as comparable to B2 on the CEFR scale, a TOEFL score of at least 72, or a degree from
an English-speaking country. Fluency in Spanish is required.
• Driving: Must be at least 25 years of age and have possessed a valid driver’s license for at least the
past five years. Must be able to drive in all terrains, in both automatic and manual transmission
vehicles. Must be able to obtain and maintain a medical clearance for driving suitability.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Ability to learn online software
programs for property and vehicle management. Basic mechanical skills desired to identify problems
associated with vehicle operations. Thorough knowledge of local traffic regulations and road systems,
airport rules and regulations. Ability to work effectively with a team as well as independently to
complete tasks. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple
tasks while remaining organized and efficient. Excellent written and verbal communication, customer
service and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
• University degree and/or additional technical training (certificate course, etc.).

Compensation/Benefits:
• Compensation is negotiable within a pre-determined range, based on salary history and experience.

• The individual may be asked to complete one or more temporary duty assignments at other Peace
Corps posts, transfer to another Peace Corps post, or to complete a detail with another USG Agency,
a Peace Corps Headquarters office, or with a post other than the post of assignment.
