1] Concept of green materials
◦ Green materials are materials that are sourced from local, renewable
resources and are environmentally responsible. They are also known as eco-
friendly materials. Green materials are classified based on how they affect the
environment, and do not consider other secondary factors. Energy-efficient
production processes and the ability to enhance the energy efficiency of buildings
make green materials a preferred choice for eco-conscious projects. Additionally,
these materials often contain low levels of hazardous substances, ensuring safer
environments for both workers and end-users.
EXAMPLES OF GREEN MATERIALS
◦ Some of the examples of green materials are:-
◦ 1) Stone:-Living in a stone structure is low maintenance and eco-friendly, and any
extra stone leftover from the build can be used for home finishings such as
countertops or tile.
◦ 2)COB:- If you want to build your own eco-friendly home, cob is a natural material that is easy to work with, even for
beginners. Cob is a mud mixture made of multiple natural ingredients such as soil, sand, straw and sometimes even lime.
◦ 3)Bamboo:-The strength and look of bamboo can help you achieve a distinctive style to make your home stand out.
2] Sustainable and renewable materials in
mechanical industries
◦ One of the central goals of ‘Industry 4.0’ is improving sustainability in practice. The
proposed ways of achieving this are endless: increased adaptation of automation and
‘smart’ feedback technologies, innovative material with reduced carbon footprints, and
better characterization and analysis tools for evaluating whether new ‘green’ materials are
truly sustainable.
◦ Moving towards ‘net zero’ goals of no net carbon dioxide emissions has become a
priority of governments worldwide, who have begun to introduce legislation to
encourage manufacturers and industries to change their practice and adapt to a more
sustainable approach. A key concept in sustainability practice is the idea of the
‘circular economy.’ A truly circular economy generates no waste as all products can be
reused as starting materials for a process or as feedstocks for another process.3 The
circular economy is an appealing concept as it reduces stress on finite natural
resources while simultaneously dealing with the mounting problem of environmental
waste – a problem of particular concern for materials such as plastics with long
environmental persistence and the potential impact of microplastic waste on the
environment, animal and human health.
3) Need of green material in automotive sectors.
