FOOD, COOKING AND DIET

Activity 1: MATCHING (10 minutes)

Teachers let students match each word with a definition and plays audio files.
After the students pick out the definition, teachers give them the correct
answers. Teachers may add some rewards for correct answers or penalties for
wrong answers.

1. Peel (v) to take the skin off a vegetable or fruit


2. Mix (v) to put two or more things together and move them around so that
they are not separate
3. Heat (v) to make something warm or hot
4. Recipe (n) instructions to make a particular dish
5. Bake (v) to cook something in an oven, for example, bread
6. Melt (v) to make a solid become liquid by making it hot
7. Stir (v) to move a liquid around slowly with a spoon
8. Ingredients (n) one of the foods that are used together to make a particular
dish
9. Add (v) to put one more thing together with the things that are there already
10.Pour (v) to make liquid fall from a container

Activity 2: LISTENING (20 minutes)

Teachers play an audio file and let students fill out the answers they listen to.
After the students finish, teachers give out the answers and additional tips for
better listening.

Some tips for better listening:

 Know their perspective.

 Guess first from the context.

 Don’t lose track because of distractions.

Teachers can give more useful tips if possible.

Teachers should study the digital lesson first and remind students of some
grammatical points:

 Describing quantities: We use a slightly different language for talking


about quantities of countable and uncountable nouns.

 For a small number or a small quantity, a few is used for countable nouns,
and a little, a little bit of, or a bit of for uncountable nouns.
Examples: Add a few strawberries, Add a little (bit of) milk.
