Core Subjects Title: Reading and Writing Skills
Core Subject Description: The development of reading and writing skills as applied to
a wide range of materials other than poetry, fiction and drama.

1. Describes a written text as connected discourse. ( EN11/12RWS-IIIa-1)

ACTIVITY: SENTENCE ORDER


OBJECTIVE: to apply the learners’ knowledge about text as connected discourse by re-
arranging the correct order of a scene in a story.
MATERIALS: Cartolina, printed numbers, tape.

1. The teacher will group the class into small groups.


2. After the class is grouped, the teacher will give each group a cartolina where the
story is written and jumbled and the printed numbers.
3. The learners will arrange the scene of the story according to its order by putting a
number before the sentence.
4. After the learners finished the task, each group will have a representative to present
their activity.
5. After each representative is done in presenting their activity, the teacher will check
if the story is arranged correctly.
6. After all the groups are done with their presentation, the teacher will provide a
general feedback and then reveal each group’s overall score.

JUMBLED SCENES IN A STORY

A. Group 1
_____ Later that day, Cinderella's fairy Godmother appeared and finished all of her chores
with her magic wand. Next, she gave Cinderella a beautiful white dress and coach so she
could go to the ball, and told her that she had to be home before midnight. Cinderella
was so happy she thanked her fairy Godmother for all her help.
______ Then, Cinderella arrived at the Ball in her beautiful dress. Suddenly, the clock
started to strike midnight! After that, Cinderella quickly left the ball and left behind one
of her glass slippers.

_______One day, the page arrived at Cinderella's house with an invitation to the Prince's
Ball. Cinderella was so excited when she heard the news she couldn't wait to go! But
then, the stepmother told Cinderella that she could go to the Ball only if she finished all
her chores. The stepmother gave her so many chores, she thought she would never
finish them. Then, she began to cry.

________The Prince found the glass slipper and said he will find the girl whose foot fits the
slipper. Later that night, the Prince arrived at Cinderella's house and gave her the
slipper. In the end, Cinderella and the Prince lived happily ever after.

________ The man drove the speed limit the rest of the way home.
________The man was given a speeding ticket.
________The man was pulled over by the police.
________The man drove 20 miles over the speed limit.

C. Group 3
________On one or both slices of bread, spread your desired condiments. ...

________Add your chosen meat if you want to have a non-vegetarian bite.
________Add vegetables of your choice on one of the bread slices

This activity will let the learners know how to arrange a sequence of event and will
allow them to follow the proper order to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts.

2. Distinguishes between and among techniques in selecting and organizing


information. (EN11/12RWS-IIIa-2)
ACTIVITY: REPORTING
OBJECTIVE: to allow the students’ differentiate the techniques in selecting and
organizing information.
MATERIALS: manila paper, marker, tape.

1. The teacher will group the class into small groups and assigned them the different
techniques in selecting and organizing information and explain how these
techniques can help them in selecting and organizing information.
 Group 1: brainstorming list
 Group 2: graphic organizers
 Group 3: Topic outline

2. The teacher will give each group a peer evaluation wherein the group leader will
evaluate all his/her group mates.
3. The class will be given 20 minutes to prepare for their report.
4. Each group will work together to come up ideas to present their assigned topic.
5. Each group will choose (2) two representative to present their report.
6. Each group will only be given 10 minute to present their report.
7. The teacher will be giving his/her feedback about the report and ask some students
from other groups to give their own feedback.
