the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Code for Buildings. The loads that have been
considered are the dead loads, live loads, and seismic loads.

1.2 Structural Design

The structural design of the five-storey commercial/residential building was done using
design software. For the design of reinforced concrete slabs, beams, and columns, the designers
used STAAD pro 2007 software.

1.2.1 Slab Design

Slab Schedule

Considering the largest Slab Area:

Initial assumption for slab thickness,

slab perimeter
thk = 180

(6000 + 6000)x2
thk = 180
thk = 133.33 say 15

10
1.2.2 Beam Design

The design of beams will show flexure and shear only. From the STAAD pro
software, the steel requirement for longitudinal reinforcement and shear reinforcement is
given.

1.2.3 Column Design

The design of columns will include longitudinal reinforcement and ties. From
STAAD pro software output, steel area requirement is given for longitudinal
reinforcement. The said software used interaction diagram for the design of the
longitudinal reinforcement.

14
DETAIL OF C-1

15
Least dimension of the column= 400 mm

Therefore, use 320 mm ties spacing

C-1 (250 mm x 400 mm)

As= 1600 mm2

Abar= 490.87 mm2

As
no. ofbars =
Abar
1600
no. ofbars =
490.87 = 3.26
no. of bars = 4

Design of Ties:

Using the requirement for spacing of

ties 16 x Øbar = 16 x 25 = 400 mm

48 x Øtie = 48 x 10 = 480 mm

Least dimension of the column= 400 mm

Therefore, use 400 mm ties spacing
