Urban Water Management and Resilience
Urban Water Management and Resilience
Title: Enhancing Urban Water Management Resilience Through GIS and Smart Technologies
Introduction: Urbanization poses challenges to water management, necessitating resilient solutions. This
Ph.D. research aims to develop an integrated urban water management framework using GIS and smart
technologies to enhance resilience to water-related challenges in rapidly growing urban areas.
Objectives: a. Assess the current state of urban water management and identify vulnerabilities. b.
Develop GIS-based models for spatial analysis of water infrastructure and demand. c. Integrate smart
technologies for real-time monitoring and control of urban water systems. d. Validate the framework
through case studies in rapidly urbanizing regions.
Literature Review: Review existing literature on urban water management, applications of GIS in
infrastructure planning, and the integration of smart technologies in urban water systems. Identify gaps
in current methodologies and challenges in achieving resilience in urban water management.
Methodology:
1. Data Collection:
GIS data for urban infrastructure, population density, and land use patterns.
Smart sensors and IoT devices for real-time data on water demand and supply.
Assess the current state of urban water management and identify vulnerabilities.
Utilize GIS to model water infrastructure, analyze demand patterns, and identify stress
points.
Develop GIS-based models for spatial analysis of water infrastructure and demand.
Utilize high-resolution satellite imagery for detailed land use and impervious surface
analysis.
Integrate smart sensors and IoT devices for real-time monitoring and control of urban
water systems.
Expected Outcomes:
Integrated urban water management framework with GIS and smart technologies.
GIS-based decision support tools for urban infrastructure planning and resilience.
Significance of the Study: This study contributes to the field by providing an integrated framework for
urban water management, essential for resilient and sustainable urban development in the face of
population growth and climate change.
