2. DECLARATION OF PURPOSES

PASTOR:
Dearly beloved, we are all gathered here in the presence of God and of His people
to join Mr. June & Ms. Xena in the state of matrimony. Marriage is an honorable estate,
instituted by God. It signifies the mystical union that is between Christ and His Church, which
Christ adorned and sanctioned with His Holy presence. Christ brought His first miracle during a
wedding. In Cana of Galilee. He commends marriage in scripture. As honorable, therefore no
one should in anyway enter into it, lightly or unadvisedly-but reverently, discretely, advisedly,
soberly and in the fear of God, considering the causes for which marriage was ordained.
God ordained marriage for mutual company, help and comfort of man and woman both in
prosperity and adversity. Into this holy state Mr. June and Ms. Xena, has come now to be
joined.
If anyone can show just cause why they may not be joined together, let him speak now, or
else forever hold his peace.

PASTOR: Who gives this woman to be married to this Man?

3. OPENING PRAYER

4. SCRIPTURE READING

EMCEE: Please be seated. I would like to call on ____________ to read the Holy
Scripture. (Eph. 5: 22 – 33)

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as
also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the
church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that
He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word that He might
present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but
that she should be holy and without blemish. So, husbands ought to love their own wives as
their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh,
but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His
body, of His flesh and of His bones. “For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. “This is a great mystery, but I
speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless, let each one of you in particular so
love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects

PASTOR: (will give at least 30 minutes of his sermon: include the prayer of acceptance).

6. MARRIAGE VOWS

PASTOR: June, will you have Xena to be your wedded wife, to live according to the Law of
God in the holy state of Matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, in sickness and in
health, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only to her, so long as both shall live?

GROOM: I will

PASTOR: Xena, will you have June to be your wedded husband, to live according to the
Law of God, in the Holy state of Matrimony? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and
keep him, in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only to him, so
long as both shall live?
BRIDE: I will

7. GIVING OF SYMBOLS

EMCEE: May I call on the Ring Bearer.

A. Exchange of Rings

PASTOR: (Give the ring to the groom)

The ring is the outward sign of your love for one another, endless and goes on as
long as you live. It is also a visible sign of two people becoming as one flesh and will remind
such union to help and support one another.
 GROOM: Xena, this ring is a sign of my faithfulness and unending love for you. It is for
this reason, that I chose you to be my wife, as my partner in life, to care and support you in
all things by the grace and mercy of the Lord, In the Name of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit.

BRIDE: I will accept this with all my heart.

PASTOR: (give the ring to the bride)

BRIDE: June, this ring is a sign of my faithfulness and unending love for you. It is for this
reason, that I chose you to be my husband, as my partner in life, to care and support you in all
things by the grace and mercy of the Lord, in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit.

GROOM: I will accept this with all my heart.

EMCEE: May I request the couple to please kneel, as I call on the Veil sponsor followed by
the Cord sponsor.

B. Veil and Cord Ceremony

PASTOR: (Explain the symbols)

VEIL – the veil is the symbol of voluntary submission of wife to her husband. The man
is the head of this new family; it also symbolizes the husband’s role as a protector and
defender of his wife.

CORD - the cord symbolizes infinity, the unending

love, binding husband and wife together like a strong
cord that shall never be broken.

EMCEE: May I call on the Coin bearer.

 C. Coin Ceremony
PASTOR: (Give the coin to the groom)

COIN – The husband will give this coin to his wife, thereby pledging that all his material wealth
jointly belongs to his wife, and that he will support her to the utmost of his ability. He is now
her provider.
GROOM: Xena, from now on, you will be the keeper of every blessing of which we will
receive from God. Accept it, and may the Lord continue to bless our life abundantly, in Jesus
Name.
BRIDE: I accept this and I promise to be a good steward.

EMCEE: I would like to call on the Bible bearer

D. Bible Ceremony
PASTOR: The Bible is a precious gift from God. The Word of God is the firm and sure
foundation of the home, as the husband gives the Bible to his wife, he pledges that the Word of
God will be the guide, authority and strong foundation of their marriage.
(The pastor will give the Bible to the groom and bride)
GROOM & BRIDE: (Receive the Bible with both hands)

E. Communion Ceremony
EMCEE: May I now call on the veil and cord sponsors to please remove the symbols.

PASTOR: Pls. explain briefly the significance of breaking of the bread. (1 Cor. 11:23 – 26)
