Title of Activity: ELDERLY WEEK CELEBRATION (TB, NONCOMMUNICABLE DISEASES,

HIV/AIDS and MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS)

I. RATIONALE

Elderly Filipino Week is commemorated every October 1 to 7 by Proclamation No.

470, issued by then-President Fidel Ramos on September 26, 1994. The proclamation
establishes the Executive Department’s obligation, via the Department of Social Welfare and
Development, to implement a social welfare program supporting the well-being of the elderly.
It is believed that older Filipinos are essential members of society who need help and
protection in order to live productive and happy lives. The yearly celebration of the Elderly
Filipino Week emphasizes the contributions of senior citizens in contributing to the
development of the country.

In line with this, the Local Government Unit of _______________________ through the
Municipal Health Office will celebrate the Elderly Filipino Week through symposium
highlighting the different diseases that could affect these vulnerable groups in the society
such as TB, HIV/AIDS, Mental Health and Noncommunicable Diseases.

II. OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of Elderly Filipino Week Celebration is to raise awareness of the different
diseases that could affect them such as mental health issues, noncommunicable diseases, TB,
HIV/AIDS.
