To help students attain competence in all skills of the English language


especially reading skill

This course is designed to further develop the learner's confidence and fluency in
using the English language and to enrich their learning experience through
interactive lessons and communicative exercises.
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

LO1. Recall and apply key words in new context


LO2. Skim for gist & scan for details
LO3. Identify sentences functions, Identify topics & main ideas, Identify
supporting details
LO4: Understand word formation and apply this to guess word meaning
LO5. Recognize patterns of cohesion: cause/effect, compare/contrast,
problem/solution, Understand cohesion in description.
LO6. Recognize and interprete statements of opinion, and fact
LO7. Make strong inferences and avoid weak ones, Distinguish between
deliberate implications and direct statement.
LO8: Write a 4-paragraph essay (opinion, cause-solution)
LO9: Paraphrase ideas
LO10. Identify and evaluate evidence, recognize and deal with faulty rhetoric

- Attend more than 80% of contact hours in order to be accepted to the final
examination
- Actively participate in class activities
- Fulfil tasks given by intructor after class
- Use their own laptop in class only for learning purpose
- Use Student Access Code provided with the textbook
