Introduction
Are you part of the online creative community? Then you’ve
probably heard a lot about NFTs. Social media is throbbing with the
acronym NFT.

NFTs have been named a digital transformation for buying and

selling art. But what are NFTs, and how does it work? Are they of
curiosity to photographers like you? What are its pros and cons? This
guide will explore what photography NFT is all about.

What are NFTs?

NFT stands for non-fungible tokens. Non-fungible means it
cannot be replaced or altered. A unit of Bitcoin is fungible. Bitcoin can
be exchanged or traded for different Bitcoins. You can trade one for
another, and there will be no tangible difference. In comparison, an NFT
is unchangeable and unique.

Bear in mind that an NFT is an image in the form of a digital token. Such
tokens are then sold online. An NFT could be anything in digital form.
For instance, animations, photographs, and artwork can be converted
into an NFT and be sold online.

These days, the NFT is shaking up the art realm. Other individual NFTs
are being sold for thousands of dollars. Artists like you might be interested
in thin NFTs that will offer you the financial rewards you deserve. But the
question is, is it so easy?

The Process of
Buying and Selling
NFTs
Selling NFTs is not like selling your artwork at an art fair or Etsy. That
marketplace is different and 100% digital.

Cryptocurrencies and NFTs

Remember that NFTs cannot be sold or bought with any standard
currency such as US Dollars, Great British Pounds, or Euros. An NFT
can only be bought with cryptocurrency.

Most of the current NFTs are part of the Ethereum blockchain—one

type of cryptocurrency. You will not receive pends or pounds if you
make an NFT and sell it on the Ethereum blockchain. Instead, you will
be paid in Ethereum (ETH).

In case you didn’t know yet, a blockchain is a community of traders and

investors related to that specific cryptocurrency. Each user has their
profile on the blockchain, comprising their purchase history.

Should You Sell an

NFT?
Many content creators and artists are using Instagram to market
their work. However, unless you are one of the leading influencers, it
produces no revenue. For instance, a photographer could get
thousands of likes for a single photo, but these “likes” don’t
pay the bills. Right?

NFTs are providing digital art creators with a new method of selling their
work. They can sell individual photos directly as NFTs. Thus, they don’t
need to depend on exhibitions and art fairs, not to mention they don’t
need to be scouted for editorials. Alternatively, they can sell their work
as individual units straight into the blockchain.

There have been some astounding figures associated with the sale of
NFTs. In fact, Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey, sold his first-ever tweet for
more than $2 million. Pop artist Grimes sold the fifty-second video as
an NFT for $390,000. There’s also a $6.6 million sale for a video made
by Beeple.

Every time you see figures like that, it is hardly surprising that
photographers and artists are looking to NFTs to make some cash.
Other people say it sounds too good to be true.

NFTs for Photogra-

phers: What Does
It Mean?
Photographers can turn their images into NFTs and sell them online like
other artists. The best part here is you don’t need to perform any new
shoots. As an alternative, you can go through your archive to find an old
photograph you think has some value.

Photo NFT can be an excellent way to supplement your income as a

photographer. You can sell the photos you did for fun. Even photographs
that may have had no professional value recently. As long as it is digital,
you can convert that into a photo NFT.

Other photographers have already struck gold by selling their photos as

NFTs. For instance, did you know that Kate Woodman sold her work
“Always Coca Cola for 11,888 Ethereum? That works out at more than
$20,000! You see, that’s a huge amount of money for a single photo.
The considerations for a photographer are similar to any other artist.
First, you must be confident enough your work will sell. Take note that
listing an NFT is not free as well. You do not like to make a total loss.
It’s important that you also consider the type of work that might sell.
NFT photos will not sell only because they are NFT. The work should be
wanted for one reason or another.

Photography NFT
Marketplace
You will find different photography NFT marketplace platforms where
NFT can be created and sold. Below are some platforms that can help
you mint an NFT and get started. Remember that when accessing these
platforms, you should connect your digital wallet to mind, purchase or
sell an NFT.

• OpenSea
OpenSea is a major NFT platform. It has a customizable platform
where you can make a profile and connect a wallet. That provides
a decentralized marketplace for photographers to sell or exhibit
their NFT. This platform enables you to make collections of NFTs
you have either purchased or created.

• Rarible
Rarible is one of the biggest NFT platforms in the market today.
First-time NFT creators use this platform as it’s not challenging
to use or navigate. Users also don’t need any programming skills
to mint an NFT.

• Foundation
The largest draw of this platform is it makes it simple to look
through photography NFT on their website. However, its minting
fees and high royalty fee on sales do not make it the most
creator-friendly option out there.

Final Thoughts
One could easily argue that photography NFT offers one of
the best use cases for the technology. It is simple to visualize how
NFTs could become the main source of income for photographers at all
levels one day.

With more platforms emerging to serve the niche

space, it is guaranteed to expand in 2022
and beyond.
