Abstract
One of the most important topics in the workplace is business ethics.
This report will examine business ethics from concept to application, as
well as assess the level of professionalism and ethical/unethical behavior
in organizations. There is a general introduction to the survey and the
concept of business ethics in the workplace in this report. This report
will also look into research methodology and the types of questions
posed to these businesses. The findings/outcomes of data and
information collection and analysis are then presented. We conclude that
such recommendations should be made based on the outcomes
demonstrated.
Introduction
Over the last decade, today's businesses have seen a significant
improvement in the field of ethics. Business ethics is critical for
fostering growth and improvement in the workplace; it is the collective
values of a business or organization that can be used to determine
whether the collective members of the organization's behavior are
acceptable and appropriate or not. Everyday ethical decisions are
typically made by weighing the lesser of two evils rather than the
obvious right and wrong dimensions of the judgment. In general, these
judgments include various types of values pursued by the industrial
house in the vision and mission of the group companies. Ethics refers to
the standards, moral principles, and behavioral guidelines to which we
hold ourselves in our personal and professional lives. It determines the
levels of honesty, empathy, trustworthiness, and other virtues. In our
professional lives, ethics governs how we interact with customers,
clients, coworkers, and employees. In other words, Business Ethics is
nothing more than the application of Ethics in business. Business ethics
demonstrates that companies can and have been ethical. Human beings
have been endowed with the ability to choose and use their free will.
They can tell the difference between what is good and what is evil, what
is right and what is wrong, what is just and what is proper. He can
distinguish between the goal he wants to achieve and the means to
achieve that goal. What is true for humans is also true for business,
because business is only conducted by humans. To continue, workplace
ethics has many implications, such as employee credibility. It establishes
shared objectives, values, and a common language. Another
consideration is profitability; ethical businesses are more likely to be
successful and profitable in the long run, even if they may lose money in
the short run. The purpose of this report is to shed light on the concept of
business ethics but more specifically in restaurants field.
Methodology
In our project case analysis, we will examine the results of a survey that
we conducted as a group of four members of ten highly rated restaurants
throughout Lebanon. We decided to research and analyze the level of
ethics of workers in such companies based on their responses, which
included three options for an answer: yes, no, and somehow. The survey
consisted of ten close-ended questions based on our topic idea, using
Google forms, face to face due to the current pandemic situation of
COVID-19, we will abide by social distancing and masks. Following
that, we plotted the data in pie charts and bar charts in percentages
( percent ).
The 10 questions are :
1. Do you monitor how much alcohol is served considering its
negative consequences when over-serving?
2. Do you improve employee skill sets with new techniques for
personal service and food preparation to ensure customer
satisfaction and value?
3. Do you participate in community organizations that support your
business
4. Do you attain fair trade laws and practices among people in the
industry
5. Do you ensure food safety and high quality of life for consumers
6. Do your processes require food establishments to know where the
suppliers' livestock is sourced
7. Do you know which hormones or artificial additives are added to
feedstocks, and how livestock is raised and treated
8. Are you committed to selling only healthy products and never
using harmful ingredients
9. Do you go above and beyond the letter of the law to ensure that
the highest product quality standards are enforced?
10. Are you concerned about making your community quite
greener?

Interpretation
Usually, people rate restaurants based on employees' skills and food
safety, which is present in these 10 chosen restaurants 100% beside
fair trade laws and practices among employees. But, the most
important thing in high-quality restaurants should be based on making
the going behind the laws to make the society greener, knowing what
the livestock are being fed, and committed to selling only healthy
food, which simply means being socially responsible and responsive,
but it's not 100% provided in these restaurants. For example, 40% are
"somehow" concerned with making their society greener while the
right thing to do is to be 100% concerned with that because a high-
rated restaurant should have gratitude and respond to people's
kindness by improving the society as a whole. The most negative
response that we find in the graphs is that 10% of restaurants over
serve alcohol and 30% are somehow dealing with that. To add, 20%
of them don't participate in community organizations that support the
business, and 60% of them somehow participate while just 20%
participate in it.
Conclusion
Food quality, server schedules, and responsible alcohol service are all
ethical issues that restaurants face on a daily basis. We've discovered
that confronting ethical concerns head on is the best way to address
them. Food quality is an ongoing aspect of the restaurant, and
managers should teach their employees to make the right decision
regardless of the cost. Restaurants should have systems in place to
account for and monitor waste on a daily basis. Server schedules are
created as part of a reward system. Servers who perform well in
contests, have higher guest check averages, and are discipline-free are
the team members who get the prime shifts. The staff must be
continuously trained and educated on proper alcohol service, and they
should have the authority to cut a guest off if they believe the guest is
intoxicated. They are also aware that they can approach managers,
and that we will support their decision to terminate service. Every
day, restaurants have the opportunity to do the right thing. Ethical
issues arise in restaurants on a daily basis and must be addressed. It
was difficult for managers to learn how to deal with problems, and
they struggled to learn the proper way. Passion for food, entertaining
people, and a love of the business are what keep restaurant managers
doing the right thing.
