Reflective Essay for 1 Semester
This reflective essay aims to analyze my personal experience and performance in the
Teaching Biology in English course during the past semester. It will also provide suggestions
for improvement in future teaching and learning practices.
At the beginning of the semester I felt that my pronunciation and English were bad, but I
always learn and keep trying in this course and now I feel better than before even though I still
lack confidence when speaking English. Throughout the semester, I have actively participated
in various learning activities, including lectures, discussions, group projects, and practical
sessions. I found the lectures to be informative and engaging. The discussions were particularly
valuable, as they allowed me to exchange ideas with my peers and gain different perspectives
on the subject matter. The group projects enabled me to collaborate with others and develop my
teamwork skills. The practical sessions were especially beneficial, as they provided me with
hands-on experience in designing and implementing biology teaching activities.
I believe that I have made significant progress in my understanding of biology teaching
methodologies and strategies. I am now more confident in my ability to plan and deliver
effective biology lessons. I have also developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of
creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
One of the biggest challenges I faced during the semester was managing my time effectively.
The course workload was quite demanding, and I often found myself struggling to keep up. I
could have improved my time management skills by creating a detailed schedule and sticking
to it. I could have also broken down large tasks into smaller, more manageable ones.
Another challenge I faced was overcoming my fear of public speaking. I was often nervous
when presenting in front of the class, and this sometimes hindered my ability to communicate
effectively. I could have improved my public speaking skills by practicing regularly and seeking
feedback from others. I could have also joined a public speaking club or taken a public speaking
course.
Overall, I believe that the Teaching Biology in English course has been a valuable learning
experience. I have gained a wealth of knowledge and skills that will be essential for my future
career as a biology teacher.
 Suggestions for Future Learning
I would like to suggest the following improvements for future teaching and learning
practices:
1. More opportunities for hands-on learning: I believe that hands-on learning is an essential
part of effective biology teaching. I would like to see more opportunities for students to
participate in practical activities and simulations.
2. More opportunities for collaboration: I believe that collaboration is a valuable learning tool.
I would like to see more opportunities for students to work together on projects and
assignments.
3. More opportunities for feedback: I believe that feedback is essential for learning. I would
like to see more opportunities for students to receive feedback from their peers and
instructors.
4. Offer more support for students who are struggling with the subject matter. The instructor
could offer additional support to students who are struggling with the subject matter, such
as tutoring sessions, study groups, and online resources.
I am confident that these suggestions will help to improve the learning experience for all
students in the Teaching Biology in English course.
 Conclusion
I am grateful for the opportunity to have taken the Teaching Biology in English course. It
has been a challenging but rewarding experience. I am now more prepared to enter the teaching
profession and make a positive impact on the lives of my students. It has been a valuable
learning experience for me, and I am confident that it will help me to become a successful
biology teacher.
