Subject: Proposal for Technological Incubation

This is a proposal from AKGEI, (AKG Electronics Industries, Kolkata) seeking to

be a part of the research and innovation ecosystem that aims to maintain the growth of our
country’s technological infrastructure in order to achieve the sustainable goals of environment
friendly socio-economic vision of 21st century world. As per the National Smart Grid Mission,
established by Govt. of India in 2015 towards accelerating smart grid deployment in order to
transform Indian power sector into an efficient, reliable, sustainable and digitally enabled
industry,AKGEI has taken initiatives for the production of Smart Energy Meters so that needs
can be met.
Smart Energy Meter, being the foundation embedded system block of Smart Grid,
should be designed for accurate measurement, recording, and analysis of electricity consumption
along with advanced bi-directional communication established between utility provider and
consumer in order to facilitate demand response, time-of-use pricing, remote meter reading, and
the integration of renewable energy sources. International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
has set the IEC 62056 standard to ensure the interoperability among utility providers and smart
energy meters from different manufacturers, communicating over different communication
Media.
AKGEI is impressed by the cutting-edge research and technological advancements
achieved by Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata. We believe that by
combining the expertise of VECC, Kolkata with the research capabilities of your esteemed
institution, we can create a powerful synergy that will drive innovation and contribute to the
advancement of the development work of Smart Energy Meter
It is pertinent to mention here that AKGEI has already been the recipient of
technology transfer from VECC, Kolkata for two of our products: RFID and Digital Current
Indicator. To give a background, A.K.G. Electronics Industries was established in 1978
initially as an R&D unit, supporting the needs of the Indian Railways. Immediately on its
inception, it was recognized by The Government of India (Dept. of Science & Technology) as an
approved R&D unit. The company is a certified supplier of the Indian Railways and has the SSI,
NSIC, and ORION Register Inc., U.S.A., Certification for ISO 9001:2000. Through its in-house
efforts, AKGEI developed the intrinsically safe mines communication systems as its first product
and brought out the prototype in 1979, which with its various models are used extensively by
several mines in India. In 1980, Railway signal equipments like Token Less Block Instruments
and Track Magnets, which are the most important part of total automatic warning system were
taken up for development and subsequently by combining the innovative technology with an
intimate knowledge of the customer’s application and mission the product completely replaced
imports from Germany and Japan. Since then the Railways are largely dependent on AKGEI’s
warning systems.

Objective of collaboration:
 We propose a collaborative effort to incubate and develop Smart Energy Meter.
 Our team is excited about the prospect of exchanging knowledge and leveraging the research
expertise of VECC, Kolkata to enhance our technological capabilities.
 We envision joint research initiatives that will result in the development of practical
solutions, contributing to the growth of our organizations.

Benefits of Collaboration:
 Through this partnership, we anticipate mutual growth and success, with the potential to
create Smart Energy Meter and innovative solutions that address current and future Smart
Grid challenges.
 Research institutions like VECC, Kolkata have advanced laboratories, equipment, and
facilities that are expensive for industries like us to maintain. Collaborating allows industries
like us to access these specialized resources.
 Collaborating with a reputable research institution like VECC, Kolkata lends credibility and
can the technologies or products being developed. This can be especially valuable for us.
 Collaboration provides opportunities for networking with other industry partners, researchers,
and potential clients, expanding the business and research network of both parties.
 We are keen to explore opportunities for the commercialization of research outcomes,
creating economic value and societal impact.
 Collaborating institutions can respond more effectively to changes in the technological
landscape, market demands, and other external factors by leveraging each other's strengths
and resources.
 Successful collaborations can evolve into long-term strategic alliances that extend beyond the
initial project.

We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this proposal further at your earliest
convenience. Our team is open to scheduling a meeting or conference call to address any
questions you may have and explore the potential synergies between our organizations.Thank
you for considering our proposal. We look forward to the possibility of a fruitful
collaboration that will contribute significantly to technological innovation and advancement.

Sincerely,
Ashis Gayen,
