Lesson Plan in Mathematics 4

I. Objective:
Describes and illustrates different angles (right, acute and obtuse)
using models.
MELC: M4GE-IIIb-14

II. Topic: Describing and Illustrating the Different Kinds of Angles.

Reference: Mathematics 4 TG pages 208-211 , LM pages 158-159
Materials: 3 Improvised wallclock, laptop, ruler, pencil, activity sheets.
Value Focus: Spending time wisely.

III. A. Preliminary Activities

1. Drill:
Have a drill on identifying the different kinds of lines.
a. b. c. d.

e. f.

2. Review:
Have a review on what a ray is. Name the given rays.
C F
A
B G H
D E
3. Motivation:
Ask the pupils to look at the clock.
Ask: What time is it now?
Lead the pupils to discuss what they do everyday. Emphasize the
importance of spending time wisely.
B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation:
Present this situation to the class. Ask the pupils to read it.

Rose , May and Clair attend piano lessons every

Saturday. Rose starts her lesson at 3:00 pm. May at
2 pm. And Clair at 12:45 pm.
Ask: 1. Who attend piano lesson every Saturday?
2. At what time does Rose start her piano lesson?
3. How about May?
4. Clair?

If you are going to show in the clock, what time their lesson start and
how will you do it?
2. Performing the Activities:
Let the pupils work in pairs. Ask them to draw the hand positions of the
clock based on the situation given.

3. Processing the Activities:

Check who among the pairs were able to draw and label correctly the
hands of the clock. Ask the pair who got it right to explain their work.
Let them knew that each hand of the clock represents a ray. Label each
ray with Capital letters.
Let them also know that the hands shown by the clock represents an
angle.
Discuss with the pupils the parts of an angle and the different kinds of
angles which are right, acute and obtuse angles. Also discuss how to name an
angle.
What is an Angle?
An angle is formed when two rays meet at a common end-point. It is
measured in degrees (°).
Kinds of Angle
1. Right Angle – measures 90° and it forms a square corner.

2. Acute Angle – measures less than 90°. It is smaller than the right
angle.
3. Obtuse Angle – measures more 90° but is less than 180 °.

4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skills

A. Tell whether each kind of angle is right, acute or obtuse angle.

1. 2. 3.

4. c 5.

B. Draw the following angles.

1. <ABC - Acute Angle
2. <DEF – Obtuse Angle
3. <GHI – Right Angle

C. Give the Kind of Angle represented by each objects or figures.

5. Generalization:

2. Acute Angle – measures less than 90°. It is smaller than the

3. Obtuse Angle – measures more 90° but is less than 180 °.

6. Application:
Draw your dream house using different angles. Label the angles used.
In building our house, there are things we should consider in order to
keep our family safe.
What is the best place where you can build your dream house? Why?

IV. Assessment:
Write the letter of the correct answer.
1. What geometric figure is formed when two rays meet at a common end-point?
A. Line B. Point C. Angle D. Polygon
2. What kind of angle is formed by a square table?
A. Right Angle C. Obtuse Angle
B. Acute Angle D. None of the Above
3. What kind of angle is shown by an opened book whose measure is greater than
90°?
A. Right Angle C. Obtuse Angle
B. Acute Angle D. Right or Acute Angle
4. What kind of angle is illustrated when the hands of a clock form 1:20?
A. Right Angle C. Obtuse Angle
B. Acute Angle D. None of the Above
