HOW TO CONFIGURE THE EXTERNAL INTERFACE

This document describes how to (re)configure the external (internet) network settings of
an Open Systems device.

Step 1: Connect to device

• Connect with screen and keyboard:

The simplest way to access the host is with a VGA screen (the VGA connector is on the
back of the host) and a USB keyboard.

OR

• Connect with serial cable:

The serial cable may need an RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter.

a. Connect the serial cable from a PC to the port on the Open Systems device labeled
“console”.

b. Use PuTTY or another terminal emulator application of your choice for the serial
connection.

c. Find the correct serial line (COM) to connect:

• Device Manager

• Connections (COM & LPT1)

d. Click “Serial” to enter the serial line.

Check if speed is set to 115200 (if that doesn’t work, try 9600 *).

Note*: As part of our coverage of technology risk, Open Systems is replacing certain hard-
ware. This means the baud rate for the devices will change to 115200 in the long term.

If there are any problems,
