Course Description:
Understanding Biological sciences, analysis and estimation of biomolecules, preparation of temporary slides for
microscopic analysis, study of cell structure and division, investigation of catalytic activity of enzyme, physiology
of plant and animal systems, diversity of living systems.

Experiment Plan
Experiment – 1: Protein Lab: Measurement of total protein Proteins: the building blocks; their role in
content in the given sample by Lowry’s method. humans; methods to quantify proteins in
different samples.
Experiment – 2: Enzyme Lab: To study the effect of the enzyme Properties of an enzyme and chromogenic
lactase on milk detection methods.
Experiment – 3: Transport Lab: To study the phenomenon of Effect of tonicity of a solution on different cell
plasmolysis in onion peel. types; osmosis & osmoregulation.
Experiment –4: Transpiration Lab: and measurement of Understanding the role of stomata in controlling

transpiration rate using Cobalt chloride method transpiration in plants. Transpiration rate and
factors affecting it.
Experiment – 5: Stomata Lab:Preparation of temporary mount of Visualizing stomata and appreciating its role in
leaf epidermis to study the structure of stomata gasous exchange in plants.
Experiment –6: DNA Lab: To extract DNA from banana Basic knowledge about the genetic material,
principle of its isolation.
Experiment – 7: Physiology Lab: Measurement of haemoglobin Blood group incompatibility, genetics behind
content in the human blood and determination of blood group inheritance, hemoglobin and its
blood group and Rh status. importance; Blood typing.
Experiment – 8 Bioinformatics Lab: To understand Sequence- Understanding the application of Bioinformatics
Structure-Function relationship of protein in sequence comparision and anlysis of various
through bioinformatic analysis macromolecules like protein, RNA and DNA.
Experiment-9: Microscopy Lab: Observing characterstic Learning to handle and use microscope, making
features of important specimen observations using different slides. Permanent/
temporary mounts to understand the relationship
between structure and function.
Note: The order/number of experiments listed above may change depending on the availability of chemicals,
enzymes, and other requirements for a specific experiment.
Evaluation Scheme: Evaluations will be based on laboratory experiments and their materials covered in Gen Bio
classes.
Make up Policy:
No make ups will be granted without prior permission from instructor-in charge. Genuine cases such as
hospitalization, (upon production of the relevant documents as records/ proof) will be considered upon discussion
with team.
