Further Maths Letter 20-05-2024
Dear Parent/Carer,
AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics is offered as an extracurricular GCSE to high attaining Maths pupils in Year 11. It is a
one-year course and counts as a full extra GCSE. There are a maximum of 30 places available on the course and pupils
are offered places primarily based on their attainment in the end of Year 10 assessment. Some other factors, such as
behaviour for learning, cumulative attainment and homework record, may also affect offers. Any offer of places not
taken will be offered to pupils on a waiting list.
Lessons will take place once a week for one hour after school. The exact day will be confirmed in September. Pupils
must make a commitment to attend all these lessons and complete a one-hour compulsory homework each week. A
mock exam will be sat in late April/early May 2025.
As well as gaining a highly regarded extra GCSE, the study of Further Maths will increase confidence in standard GCSE
Maths making it more likely pupils achieve the highest grades and prepare them for the study of A-level Maths.
I am attaching an information sheet from AQA which also links to their website where you can read more about the
course.
Yours faithfully
Mr G. Narang
