A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

I. LEARNING COMPETENCIES

● Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of
geometry of shapes and sizes, and geometric relationship.
● Performance Standards
The learner is able to create models of plane figures and formulate
and solve accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of
polygon.
● Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
1.define line, line segment and ray;
2. enumerate line, line segments and rays in a given figure: and
3. relate line, line segment and ray in real life situation.

III. LESSON PROPER

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer
Class, let us start this day by seeking
the guidance of our Almighty Father through
a prayer. Lord Jesus, we pray today that you
multiply your grace on us.
Subtract and take away all of our sins
by your mercy that you have shed on
us.
Add to our awareness a better
understanding of your will for us in our
life.
We will divide our blessings and grace
with those that are not as fortunate as
we.
In your perfect and most holy name we
come to you, Jesus, and ask these
things. Amen.

Before you take your seats, kindly

arrange the alignment of your chairs and
pick up the pieces of papers under your
chair.

2. Greetings
Good morning, learners!

Good morning, Ma’am!

Before we start, I would like you to
remember our classroom rule which is the
POINT RULE.

Please read all together.

Thank you. Is it clear class?

Yes, Ma’am.

3. Checking of Attendance
For the attendance, Ms. Secretary,
do we have absentees for today?
Secretary of the class: I’m glad to report
that no one is absent for today.

Thank you so much, Ms. Secretary.

4. Review

Before we start with our new lesson,

who can give a recap of our previous lesson?
Our last topic was all about other
geometric terms on points and lines.

Very good!
And what are the other geometric
terms on points and lines? The other geometric terms on points
and lines are the coplanar points,
collinear point/lines, intersecting lines,
parallel lines, concurrent lines and skew
lines.
Excellent!
Do you have any questions or
clarifications regarding our previous topic?

None, ma’am!

Now learners, I want you to get
yourself ready and let’s begin our lesson for
this day.
B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation
Let’s start the day with an activity.

• Posted on the board are what we

call Morse Code. It consists of dots
and dashes to represent a letter.

• I will post a series of morse code

here in front and try to decipher the
code.
• The first to decipher the code will
receive chips.
Understood, class?
In Chorus: Yes, Ma’am

If you are all ready, then let’s start.

●▬●● ●● ▬● ●
Yes, (student)
Ma’am, it’s line

Very Good, next.

●●● ● ▬ ▬● ▬ ▬ ● ▬● ▬
Yes, (student)
Ma’am, it’s segment.

Nice, here is your chip. Next.

●▬● ●▬ ▬●▬ ▬
Yes, (student)
Ma’am, it’s ray.

Well Done, here is your chip.

2. Activity (Group Activity)
Did you enjoy our little game?
Yes, Ma’am
Are you all familiar with the given words?
Yes, Ma’am

If you enjoyed it and are all familiar, then

let’s have another activity.

• Each group will be given a folder

containing a task.
• Task should be done by group.
• The first group must yell their group
name, written in the folder, and paste
it on the board.
Are my instructions clear?
Yes, Ma’am

Then, proceed to your respective areas.

3. Analysis
Based on our activity, what do you think
will be our topic for today?
I think our topic today is related to line.

Very Good!
Our topic for today is about subsets of a
line particularly the line segment and the
ray.
Consider the two figures:

B
Figure 1

C D E
Figure 2
Figure 1 is an illustration of a line
segment while figure 2 is a ray. Now, how
is figure 1 different from figure 2?
Student 1: Figure 1 has two endpoints
while figure 2 has point and arrow on
one side.

Exactly!
Based on that figure how can you
define a line segment?

Student 2: Line segment is a subset of

Exactly! a line consisting of two endpoints.

Who can give me the endpoints of a

line segment in figure 1?
Student 3: Points A and B or points B
and A.

Very good!
How will the line segment?
Student 4: Line segment AB or BA.

Excellent!
Student 5: Ray is a subset of a line that
How about in figure 2, how can you
has only one endpoint and extends
define a ray?
infinitely in only one direction.
Excellent!
Can you name the ray in figure 2?
Student 6: ray CE or ray DE.
Very good!
Now, kindly take a look at the 3rd figure.

V W X Y Z
Figure 3

What can you say about this figure?

Student 7: The figure has points and
two rays extend in opposite direction.

Exactly!
Those two rays are what we call the
opposite rays. So, can you describe
opposite ray based on the figure?
Student 8: Opposite rays are ray with a
common endpoint but extending
infinitely in opposite directions.

Very good!
Now can you name the opposite rays
from the given figure? Student 9: The opposite rays are ray
WV and WX, ray XV and ray XZ and so
on.
Excellent!
Do you have any questions or
clarification?
None Ma’am.
3. Abstraction
Name all the line segments, rays and
opposite rays.

Expected answer:
Line segment: CB, BA, CA
Rays: BA, BD, BC, CB, AB,
Opposite rays: BC and BA

Excellent!
It seems that you really understood our
lesson, and now ready for our next activity.

1. Application
Directions: Name all the line segments,
rays and opposite sides that you will see in
the given figure.

Expected answer:

Line segment: DE, EA, DA

Rays: EA, EB, EC, ED, DE, AE

Opposite rays: ED and EA

2. Values Integration
How can you relate our topic for today in
real life?
(answer may vary)
Very well said!

Now, it seems you would be able to

understand and apply the lesson from our
journey. Let’s have your evaluation.
3. Evaluation
TRUE OR FALSE
Tell whether the following is a true or
false.
1. The endpoint of ED is E.
Expected answer:
2. A ray has a definite length. 1. TRUE
2. FALSE
3. A line segment has a definite length.
3. TRUE
4. AB is the same as BA. 4. FALSE
5. TRUE
5. HA is the same as AH. 6. TRUE
6. A line segment has to endpoints. 7. FALSE
8. TRUE
7. A ray has consisted of one point. 9. TRUE
8. If XY and YZ have a common 10. FALSE
endpoint, then they are opposite rays.
9. If OP and OS are opposite rays, then
O lies between S and P.
