32 marks
You should spend about 50 minutes on this section.

Describe 2 features of the Treaty of London, 1518 (4 marks)

‘Describe’ means you have to give an account of the main characteristics. You do not need to
explain why the feature was important or what it was trying to achieve.
An example is ‘The Treaty of London established a system of collective security. If one power
went to war it risked being attacked by the other countries why had signed it.’ YOU CANNOT USE
THIS EXAMPLE IN YOUR ANSWER.

Explain why Cromwell rose to become Henry’s chief minister. You may use the following in
your answer.
Cromwell’s work with Wolsey
The annulment
You must also use information of your own (12 marks)
This question is all about causation – you need to look for relevant reasons. Your explanation
needs to remain focused on the question throughout. You might remember lots of detail about
a Cromwell, you need to explain how it helped him become chief minister. Remember you don’t
have to use the prompts but you need to use your own knowledge.

'Wolsey's failure to gain an annulment for Henry was the main reason why he fell from
power in 1529.'
How far do you agree? Explain your answer.
You may use the following in your answer.
Relations with Pope Clement VII
The nobility
You must also use information of your own.
As with the 12-mark question you do not need to use the prompts but you do need to use your
own knowledge. End your answer by saying how far you agree with the question statement
and give support for your decision. Bring specific facts and details into your answer to show
how well you understand the key features and characteristics that are involved in the
question.
