Rules and regulations in volleyball:

According to the governing body of volleyball (FIVB), this are the basic rules and regulations of the game
volleyball:

1. In a match, a team may consist of up to 12 players, plus the coaching staff, medical staff and team
therapist.

2. Only those listed on the score sheet may normally enter the Competition/Control Area and take part
in the official warm up and in the match.

3. One of the players, other than the Libero, is the team captain, who shall be indicated on the score
sheet.

4. A maximum 14 players may be recorded on the score sheet and play in a match.

5. Only the players recorded on the score sheet may enter the court and play in the match. Once the
coach and the team captain have signed the score sheet, the recorded players cannot be change

6. A set (except the deciding 5th set) is won by the team which first scores 25 points with a minimum
lead of two points. In the case of a 24-24 tie, play is continued until a two-point lead is achieved (26-24;
27-25; etc.).

7. The match is won by the team that wins three sets. In the case of a 2-2 tie, the deciding 5th set is
played to 15 points with a minimum lead of 2 points

8. Before the match, the 1st referee carries out a toss to decide upon the first service and the sides of
the court in the first set.12. If a deciding set is to be played, a new toss will be carried out.

9. Substitution before the start of a set is permitted, and should be recorded as a regular substitution in
that set.

10. Time-out requests must be made by showing the corresponding hand signal, when the ball is out of
play and before the whistle for service. All requested time- outs last for 30 seconds.
Violations in playing volleyball:

There are various errors committed by the players in the game of volleyball, each violation is penalized
according to the sanction of the proceeding violation.

The list of the common violations in volleyball are as follows:

• Ball in- when a player lets the ball touched the ground after an opposing players attack or teammates
pass.

• Ball out- when an attacking player lands the ball outside the playing court.

•Ball checked- when a defending player touches the ball and the ball lands on the floor.

• Holding- when the player holds the ball using his hand for a specific period of time.

• Double- when a player touches the ball twice.

• Illegal rotation- when a team commits a rotational error.

• 8 second violation- when a serving player fails to serve the ball after eight (8) seconds.

• Stepping- when a serving player steps in the service line before serving.

• Crossing- when a player crosses the net line and causes an interference on the opposing team.

• Touching- when a player touches the net.
